Whether or not it’s surprising is kind of besides the point no? It’s still a problem and to get it fixed the first step is to draw attention to it.

Yea to me his comment reads as a whiplash to realizing some of the downfalls of haskell. But he seems like he takes it way too far.

It seems less reliable to learn is optimization quirks, since you’re depending on an (infrequently changing?) implementation detail. Also writing those things sounds muh messier and less maintainable. All heuristic points I’m making.

You don’t understand that quote. It’s saying 70% of the time when people think reinforcement learning is the solution it’s not. Not saying that 30% of all problems are solvable by reinforcement learning. Sometimes I can’t tell if people here you included are intentionally misreading things to further their agenda.

It doesn’t matter, but for the record I don’t think you’re right to assert this is uncivil. I didn’t write it pejoratively, I thought he was focusing on an extraneous detail and missing the bigger picture, which is (imo) the meaning of obtuse. I think if you’re in battle mode then you’d be inclined to take it as an insult, but I don’t think it must be one (and I don’t think it’s wise to write as though everyone’s in battle mode - to cater to that)

Is this uncivil? I can see why its unsubstantive (Although my parent wasnt exactly substantive either). Whether or not its against the rules - do you understand my point?

You’re going to get in trouble for using the words “on both sides”
I don’t think hacker news would say this but many would: “one side is literally Nazis”.. not a very thoughtful complaint

On a topic like this it’s important I think to address the elephant in the room. I don’t think this implies a genetic issue! I’m not an expert but from what I know this shouldn’t lead me to the conclusion that “black Americans are predisposed to violence” and, if you know approximately the same things I do, I think that’s probably fair for you too!
