US immigration is not flawed but carefully designed to benefit corporations to have enslaved foreign labor force available on their terms to keep their local labor workforce in check.
There is no other interpretation of it. Especially targeting those who born in countries like India who are ready to pay the price to stay in the US.
Living in the US is not as great as they make you believe.
Subpar experience for anyone from other developed country. So target US as a market never try to live there.
Note: I have worked in the US, had enough opportunity to live there but never bothered about it.
hvaoc | 4 years ago | on: Ask HN: When did 7 interviews become “normal”?
Put as many engineers as I need to be on these two calls.
That’s it. Anything else is an overkill.
I am looking for someone who given time can play exactly shades of these two kind of roles in my team.
Let rest of the engineers witness as you perform.
Will have prep interview to help you understand the format and not to be intimidated by the number of interviewers or the format.
I have hired in big tech, people who will not pass these two tests get hired.
I don’t care if you remember an algorithm. I need to know that you would be able to research and get to know such algorithm and know why to use that.
hvaoc | 4 years ago | on: Why babies cry in the first three months, how to tell them apart, and what to do
Infant phase
The work is intense when they are young since they can’t do much on their own and need help very often. But this doesn’t last for too long. Most parents exaggerate this phase since it is very intense from their otherwise happy days without kids. I had enough nephews and nieces around that I helped with so my kids are not the first time I am doing something this intense.
Toddler phase
They are very manageable because of their size. Not those helpless poor little things any more. But they need to be entertained. Having others kids help a lot here. One more reason to have more than one kids. Only kids can match kids energy level.
Beyond infants
This is when things get interesting they start engaging with you a lot with words and actions.
Most of the problems with millennials for fear of having kids got to do with not having much experience before having their own. So they get overwhelmed, this is very specific to societies with lack of communities (western urban societies).
Once your friends have kids they are out of your circle since they cannot come out and do as much as they used to do.
With medical advancements and tools available to raise a child it is lot easier to raise kids than before. Over focusing on parenthood is also another issue. This is product of abundance of time and money. My mom of 3 children didn’t have tools and time to engage with us like our generation do. She did exceptionally well without over indulging in the name of parenthood.
Note: I am leaning game development and reading books while having full time job and having twins as my first children on my own at 40.
It’s totally doable. Try being around your friends with kids, that’s helpful for them as well as you.
Most rewarding thing and easily attainable for most of us is to raise children never forget the entertainment and stress buster aspect of having kids as well.
Once a wise women from the east said to us raised in the west: If you can have pets I don’t seem to understand your issues having kids. Kids are Pets+++
hvaoc | 4 years ago | on: Ask HN: How to make the most out of time at university?
Make as many mistakes as you can so can learn from it in an error-friendly ecosystem.
Host / Organize or volunteer events best way to work with others, socialize. Establish groups for long rewarding networks. Remember the folks who are walking around your campus are going to go around and take many leadership roles not to far out in the future.
If you are in tech, real usefulness of Tech is with the non-tech folks usage pattern. Ex: There are more brains working on ADs than medical imaging. Talk to them, help them apply tech into their workflows. Your simple tech tool can be a significant productivity tool for them.
Strike healthy relationships with other genders beyond dating. Helps you relate better with other genders and will help in the future in your personal and professional life.
hvaoc | 4 years ago | on: Ask HN: Is This Parenting or Scrum?
He said our generation have bane of abundance of time and money we end up inventing problems.
He said sitting and having a close watch on kids like the way we do is like digging everyday to see if a seed you have seen is growing well.
Give the seed a bit sun, soil, water and time.
Same way give your child safety, love and guidance.
All of us learnt to walk one way or another don’t we.
You guys are going to be great parents for her. Just relax and enjoy the time watching her grow.

hvaoc | 4 years ago | on: Ask HN: Words of encouragement for someone lost in life?
Added with low self esteem, disconnectedness, zero social life. (I am usually not that kind of person, I generally attract people easily in a social setup).
I cried at nights, lot of sleepless nights. Just drifting through. Lost some of my precious prime time on that. Feeling worthless (I was doing extremely well at work) and suicidal thoughts as well.
Life changes to a better state sooner or later. Now I am married to a beautiful person for 6 years. My friends and family come to me when they feel bad about some issue. That’s the full 180 degree transformation.
My point is it will happen to you as well. You are too young now. Being human is precious, never entertain thoughts about throwing it away. It’s just temporary stage in your life. Life will turn for better. Much better than your own expectations.
Meantime as others said - do physical workout. Mind will come under control when you work your body out.
Meditate.
If spending time with your age folks is draining you, pick some of the matured ones or spend time with older folks or help kids through some program.
Please don’t compare your life with anyone else especially through social media lens. Most likely they may not be true as people project.
Volunteer.
You are too young to judge your own life. You have a lot more things in store in your life. Definitely talk to some older folks who had seen it all, you will get a different perspective about life.
If you are not harming anyone or yourself, you are already a great person.
Remember someday someone else would be in need of you to lift them up. Be there for them.
Stay calm.

hvaoc | 4 years ago | on: Let's make technology valuable to all
This is Madd from f(q). I would like to share an experiment that I am just starting to build better products / company.
f(q), in a nut-shell a company building companies.
Objective is to help individuals with all tools necessary to build great companies. Starting from identifying each others to form team, execute their vision faster and reduce chances of failures.
Instead of leaving lot of things for chances and hoping things will work out. I am interested in making chances.
For most of us, even finding a team to work with itself is a problem something that I faced when I first started trying to build my product.
Even if we manage to build a product, hiring subsequent teams, marketing, design etc we end up doing everything by figuring it out as if it is done the first time while losing valuable time and energy.
Problems faced by people without tech background is even more harder.
To solve all this, I am trying different programs and hope this will help folks.
Please check the link and let me know comments / register if you are interested.
Cheers, Madd
hvaoc | 4 years ago | on: What nobody says about startup moms
Easy to ask, Free to use community driven child care. People who are less-fortunate are better in forming communities than wealthier ones. Cities dwellers lose out on such things.
As a whole, we need to do better to support parents and extra more for moms. I would not hesitate to offer to keep my friends / neighbours / colleagues children under my care for few days / hours if they need it. No fuss / No fee - just classic pure help to my fellows.
Investing in children / women lot more than we do now is vital for all our success, sooner we realize it is better.
hvaoc | 5 years ago | on: Ask HN: About to Be Acquired by MSFT
MS as a employer is good for steady source of income with reasonable work-life balance if that’s what you need in your life in near future.
If you are extremely passionate about tech, bail out as soon as possible.
Azure usage will be thrusted on your company sooner or later for obvious reason. So your work will involve some part of dealing with that.
MS is a huge company, so things will move slow.
Politics / Culture in some of the teams stink, may be AWS will be the only other which is worse that MS.
If you are young, bail out right now, there are better places to build your career.

Also since it is just getting started, you would be better off not using iPad, Apple kind of words. Instead use neutral terms like Linux OS optimized for Tablets, before it is too late.
Also heavy influence of Apple Marketing on your preview video, it would serve you well if you have the actual working copy of the OS on a tablet shown as demo as well. Hope you are making that video as well.
hvaoc | 5 years ago | on: Ask HN: Co-founder wants me to leave but won't entertain a buy out offer
1. 40 % of Nothing, other part gets the same deal. 2. You get 40 % of whatever this business is worth for. The other party gets the same.
You lose together or gain together. That's a fair game in a Startup as founders.
Don't accept anything else, if you do they just managed to bulldoze you out of your equity.
Stand for fair deal.
Don't get bullied by these negative tactics.
Remember "Two broccoli or Four broccoli" from your mother. - Call the bluff and fake dichotomy of choices. I would say - No Broccoli.
Meantime, keep everything documented and be professional - do not let them have any choice to get you out.

For most part US doesn't have functional government to manage these things properly.
hvaoc | 5 years ago | on: What is Jio, and why are tech’s biggest players suddenly obsessed with it?
Since it’s inception they have been able to get unfair advantage by having or buying insiders from the government also they hire ex-bureaucrats for their network and no the moves in the government before it becomes public.
On top of it Indian government was holding back retail market access from international competition till they get to ramp up (which they have done for donkey years).
So if you need access to Indian market, you have cost up with Reliance and that’s why you see big players lining up.
If you manage to find it watch On YouTube their annual conference of a sort (similar to US Tech Companies), you will see all of this on display.
Essentially they are the Indian Government.
I myself have this conflict to built something cross platform but then you don’t get well polished out of the box.
What do you folks think about this?
Any success with non macOS non tech savvy users buying your software as much as macOS users?
