YES to whether it's relevant. Regardless of opinions about PHP as a language, it's way too widely utilized to be irrelevant in the near future.

Whether it's worth investing time to be a PHP master is subjective. Personally, I won't be excited about being a crackerjack PHP dev, but if you find certain aspects of working with PHP compelling and suited to whatever you're building, it may be worthwhile. There's also plenty of work out there for people with PHP skills, so it could be pretty relevant with regard to employment.

By “Tesla Doubters” do you only mean people who don’t believe it’s a viable auto manufacturer? It seems pretty clear that it’s a viable auto manufacturer -- as in it manufactures and sells a significant number of vehicles. But I think many reasonable people have serious doubts/concerns about some of the issues with the vehicles themselves and leadership and future of the company.

Really? I don't know that the story is especially important, but it seems like plenty of other tech-related stories which are equally or more political or business focused, don't get 'flagkilled'.

Frankly, I feel like people here are often a little too quick to flag anything that they simple don't like, and it's annoying and kind of cheap.

1) Propose your ideas in an email, preferable with someone else cc’d on it.

2) Propose your ideas to several people on your team at once.

3) Find someone more trustworthy if you need a sounding board.

4) Talk to your manager.

5) If you don’t have good relationship with your manager AND your tech lead, it’s pretty clearly time to find a new job.

For a long time, I felt that Firefox was just less nice to work with than Chrome and couldn't quite make the switch. However, Firefox developer addition feels pretty "Chrome-like" and I've yet to experience any noticeable performance or stability issues.

I mostly agree. But, surely, you'd agree that personal experience, especially extensive personal experience, might give one an inkling about whether a particular statistic is accurate. I wasn't arguing anything more.

I've looked at a number of studies about this. In general, it's hard to find much agreement between them about actual numbers. I suspect some of that is related to how "homelessness" and "mental illness" or "addiction" are defined by the people doing the studies, but most indicate that some kind of majority are influenced by one or more of those issues.

We’re not talking about “getting in people faces”, we’re talking about a situation that is extremely unsafe, for everyone, homeless and non-homeless alike. If you’re suggesting more of that, there’s something seriously wrong with you.

To be clear, I have volunteered with a number of organizations that help the homeless in Seattle. I don't know where you're getting 25-30% from, but that doesn't match with my experience -- I'm inclined to believe it's much higher, but it can really depend on what neighborhood you're in.

I agree that both are problems worth solving, but one is pretty obviously a more urgent public health problem, and unfortunately, the more difficult one to solve.

When people are talking about Seattle's worsening homeless problem, they're talking about the presence of needles and fecal material on the sidewalks, and being harassed, and sometimes even attacked, by clearly mentally ill people, not about people living in trailers in non-urban areas.
