This is absolutely going to get scribd bought by Adobe. It's a no-brainer. Case closed. Amazing work, guys!

In my experience Apple has pretty high quality refurb processes (replacing excessively scratches chassis, etc) - so while it might not be brand new you might end up with something better than what you started with.

That said, given some of the probable porno use cases of the iPad...

Just to clarify something that appears to be a common misconception - Apple doesn't ever replace the iPad battery, it just gives you a whole new iPad for $105.95:

As a point of comparison, my Lenovo batteries that always seem to crap about a few years in cost about $100:

So... that's a pretty great deal. And I think speaks to how comfortable they are with the battery longevity. Or how fat their margins are.

Sounds a lot like the people who said they would move to Canada if George W Bush won. It's one thing to make threats like this, it's another thing completely to follow through with them.

j_b_f | 16 years ago | on: Three questions to ask before you pre-order an iPad

His complaints:

(1) You don't know how it will _feel_ (It's Apple so that's pretty much the one thing that is guaranteed to be fine)

(2) You don't know which iPhone apps will run correctly (get over it, the software will be buggy and under-featured for the first 6 months, but the web browser will work great and that's all that really matters. Remember iPhone OS 1.0?)

(3) How much will iPad-only apps cost? (A good question. My guess: another race to the bottom)

I'm also super impressed. You could have gone in any number of crazy directions but you kept it simple (dashboard, incoming, searches). I love it. It's like Campfire on steroids.

Personal feature request: preview youtube URLs, images, and tweets pasted into the chat area. Less important: let people select a range of chat messages and tag en-masse so they show up together in a search.

I have no idea what this guy is talking about.

j_b_f | 16 years ago | on: Daniel Kahneman: The riddle of experience vs. memory

The speaker argues that your memory of an event is based largely on the end of the event itself (such as the pain at the very end of a colonoscopy). Hilariously, the end of the speech itself ends strong but then there's a crappy question-and-answer session at the end that sort of ruins it. Or my memory of it, at least!

Too bad Google isn't marketing or branding these devices. If your strategy as a vendor is "hope our OS provider's branding sort of rubs off on us" I think you need a different approach.

Also, does anyone else hate killer/doomed/war linkbait as much as I do?

The Microsoft and Linux search "special" searches definitely predate the CSE product. Not sure how long they've been around for, but they're really, really old.
