Thank you for this post.I live in the middle of PA and am planning on making a move into philly, so this info will be useful to me too.

From what I can tell on meetup.com there are plenty of meetups for various technologies. The tech scene won't be as big as in boston, but it seems sufficient.

Other than the few big main sites, this is how alot of the dating sites are. Especially all of the hook up ones you see on porn sites ads. They are all fake women accounts just trying to get money out of the guys.

jordsmi | 10 years ago | on: Ask HN: Is Twitter failing?

This isn't a twitter specific thing. It happens on every form of website that has follow and unfollow features(I do it on alot of my instagram accounts). It is the easiest way to gain a follower base for a very low cost.

jordsmi | 10 years ago | on: Ask HN: How do you choose the next book you'll buy?

Usually two different methods.

1: I have a large list of books saved on goodreads that I want to read. Most of these were heard on podcasts, or were recommended on the internet. When I need a new book I just look over the list and pick one that looks interesting.

2: If I hear someone talk about a book that I am really interested in I will buy it right away. This method usually ends up in a book that sits on my desk and doesn't get read

jordsmi | 10 years ago | on: Ask HN: Liability due to lack of SSL

They 'require' it, but it is still possible to use the service without SSL. At least it was possible on stripe a few months ago. I'm not sure if they end up cutting you off after they notice the non ssl traffic, but I setup some test apps that worked fine without ssl.

Teespring and Facebook work together very closely. The majority of teespring traffic comes from facebook and they want to make sure they don't run into any issues with facebook.

I think you need to spend more time and money on marketing. You need to split test various ads to see what actually gets people in, then spend good money to that. $50-150 can be gone in no time if you aren't targeting correctly/using the right creatives.

Without good marketing none of your apps are going to take off. You can't just make them and hope it fills with users

Number 1 is a huge. The biggest thing with procrastination is actually starting on the task. Usually it's something I want to do, but just can't get myself to do it for various reasons. If I just do something as simple as saying I am going to write one line of code, I usually get sucked into the project.
