More than 100 airlines worldwide are using Amadeus (amadeus.com) today. There are different components to it such as Amadeus altea inventory (for managing their flight inventory, prices etc), altea reservation and altea DCS (for check-in and boarding). Additionally there are products to manage their websites (such as the e-commerce solution of Amadeus), revenue management systems etc. The main competitors are sabre (as mentioned) but also HP, Accenture, SITA and others are providing solutions in the same field.

It's a pretty mature industry and btw one of the first ones to move to the cloud.

Excellent!

@HSO: Thanks a lot for putting that together!

@Skoobe, thanks a lot for the sponsoring! Btw, very cool idea your app! I'll give it a run later today :-) !

justliving | 14 years ago | on: Poll: HN Meetup in Munich - date, agenda, etc. (second try)

15 Mar 2012 here as well!

In terms of suggestions: I'd be cool to see if we could make that a regular meet-up, e.g. every month.

For the first event, I'd recommend not to have any planned talks/presentation but to try it out and to see if we there'd be enough people to meet regularily.

@kojote: excellent site! That's exactly what I was searching for, since I am new in MUC since a couple of months. Excellent events you have listed.

Is there a way to have a per-month view and/or lotus-notes invitations?

keep it going! Cheers

justliving | 14 years ago | on: Best way to manage contacts and build a "living" network for my young career?

I do have exactly the same problem/need and would add the following requirements:

1/ add history per contact: e.g. met X during event Y and talked about Z.

2/ integrate w/ my prefered mail application and other communication means (twitter/fb & co) to keep track of the interactions I had w/ the person in question.

Anybody interested in building that? I'd be more than happy to help :-)

justliving | 14 years ago | on: Ask HN: Which books/blogs on PR would you recommend?

thanks a lot, very insightful. Had actually never heard about Jason Calacanis. Will check out his podcast and his blog, looks quite interesting :-) !

Would you remember any other blog/book/recommendation you read at the time ... ?

justliving | 14 years ago | on: [German] Google buys the German Groupon competitor DailyDeal

>> The only successful german software corporations are SAP

May I ask how you define "successful"? Successful compared to what/whom?

>> Where engineering study is really hard the CS curriculum is pathetic

Here again, on what facts do you base this statement? The fact that you met a guy who did not know about a given softare dev pattern does surely not mean that no German CS Master knows about it, right? Further is CS all about programming? I don't think so! How long have you been around in Germany? Did you study there? If yes in which university? Where do you work? Have you come around enough to get to such conclusions?

In general, I think that your comment is much of the reality and shading quite a bad light on "all" Germans in IT. I think you should not generalize, just because you made a bad experience once.

just the 2cts from a German, working in IT, feeling offended by such generalizing comments ;-)

cheers

justliving | 14 years ago | on: Show HN: Screen scraping for dummies app

sounds good! I like especially 1/ and would add a dead simple API to it! Is this part of your plans?

Besides, it might be intersting to play around w/ your stuff and yahoo-pipes.
