-In SF got shouted at because I calculated wrong the tip
-Seoul a driver told me I owed him 10x what was agreed with other drivers joining in (scary)
-In Lisbon the famous "this restaurant is closed today I will take you to another one" (from what I understood they get commission) got me twice
-Barcelona the driver "hid" a high bill and told me I gave him 5€ bill instead (I showed him the receipt from the ATM where I just took the money before paying him since his machine "did not work")
Since ride sharing apps became a thing? Way fewer problems and a way for me to influence positively/negatively a ride.

And the prices are eye watering high for what is offered. In the main urban areas Stockholm/Helsinki/Oslo it is easy to find house blocks consisting of buildings with soviet style looks costing close to 500k USD. Weird floor planning and "dry" walls are the norm here.
One of the apartments I had did not have a window in the bedroom. How is that okay to build it that way? I don't know. Yes, there are laws against this but it does happen.
The construction, while not shoddy, does not justify the price alone and it seems construction companies are doing quite well between the pre-built structures and hiring immigrants to do some of the less qualified jobs.
If you can make a parity between salaries price of apartments/buildings in Southern Europe, Portugal/Spain/France, and in the Americas are better built than the ones here. And they come in other colors than brown or beige.
juusto | 5 years ago | on: Black coffee can be good for your heart, studies show
Coffee has been a "side hobby" of mine for years. Different beans, grinders, you name it.
But now that I am older I can see how bad it is for me. My sweat smells different (as if I haven't showered in days), my jitters are increasing, I get very unfocused and aggitated and worst of all, mild panic attacks.
I spent few years thinking that something was really wrong with me until I noticed that coffee has a huge negative effect when I am on crunch time.
I started with teas, still not a fan, and decreasing coffee. Also moving to decaf, where are hard to enjoy because of taste.
Not sure if anyone is on the same boat.

What's the stop gap for the military in case an order this crazy would be made? Is he respected enough in the military circles that they would carry out his command?

Folks don't mask up and, also, do not keep the distance as required. Visit a supermarket, metro or restaurants (yes, restaurants are open!) and you won't see anyone using masks or distancing.
Anecdotally my wifes work place only started WFH recommendations once 6 people got infected. On industries such as software almost everyone I know has been WFH since February but many folks insist in going to the office.
On the beginning of the pandemic retirement homes were badly hit which would lead you to think the government would learn something. It did not happen and lots of places are being reinfected.
Recent news headlines to keep in mind:
-Gov is thinking in requesting private practice nurses to help with the load on public hospitals
-Talk of neighboring countries "sharing the burden"
-Elder care not well equipped to deal with this wave
-ICU occupancy reaching 99% in Stockholm

Would it be so bad to wear a mask when flu season is around? Plenty of folks do in Asian countries to no inconvenience to their daily lives.
I do hope that going forward we will be more educated on the benefits of wearing a mask here in the west and we take the lesson to heart. I doubt it though.

I am not trying to be argumentative here but the question stands, treating one and another politician with a different set of parameters is a bit weird.
BTW, I disagree with both of them. I am not trying to defend one or another.

To begin with, every company is more than welcome to produce their goods in the country and lower their costs, happens to the xbox for example. If Apple would produce their phones there and still not include the charger they would be fined the same way.
Trade restrictions are there both ways. Or do you think we can sell our planes cheaper in America? How about the billions the US gov dumps on Boeing propping up a company that is a safety risk for not only those who fly but those who are in the ground as well, or all the pork that goes to the soy farmers, the restrictions on dishwashers and so on and so forth. To name a few.
And, please, Brazil is on the G20 your mud slinging against "people marrying into a military pension" is just blowing things way out of proportion. Or do you want me to talk about the terrible state most of Alabama, Arkansas and Mississipi are? How about the opioid epidemic in many states? Is that solved?
Imagine if my country would have an armed mob storming congress to stop an election what would you say right? But fret not, thanks to a president aligned to your previous president we will most likely face the same situation.
But I digress, I think the fine is fair and any company that does not comply to local laws should be fined accordingly.
