This will enable developers to get their apps reviewed/tested easily as there are many reviewers outside US. Earlier many of the apps couldn't fully utilize their quota of 50 promo codes.

kanny96 | 15 years ago | on: E.W.Dijkstra: On the foolishness of "natural language programming"

NLP 1 : Natural Language Programming : ability to instruct a machine using your natural language

NLP 2 : Natural Language Processing : modeling and processing of the natural language phenomenon

NLP 1 requires advancement in NLP 2 to a significant level of accuracy which in turn requires the accuracy and care of the formal symbolism of lower level programming automaton. Having said that, the progress has been slow which often times leads to denouncement of pursuit of research in the NLP field.

The article is 6 years old and a lot has happened in terms of both processing power capabilities that an individual has access to now (cloud computing) and amount of data available (online information explosion, particularly social media streams) which used to be a bottleneck earlier. This opens up a huge opportunity for breakthrough in NLPs by mathematicians as mentioned by Yuri yesterday at Web 2.0 Summit. AT&T's voice activated remote ( http://www.research.att.com/projects/WATSONASR/index.html ) is an example of natural language programming that is achievable today.

It is a good effort, but i doubt it will work. This is the professor who is notorious in the academic/funding circles for faking demos, getting fined and so on.

kanny96 | 17 years ago | on: Tell HN: YC Summer 2009 application is due today.

Oops, the slot for unshaven and underslept is taken! Gotta shave.

It was a good exercise and now I appreciate much better why Cali Lewis, Amber Mac and Natalie Del Conte - show off their fumbling at the end.

It was done with both hands on the cam. The cam's auto-focus had problem adjusting to the tube light in the basement and created a few blurs.

It wasn't scripted, but i practiced it 4-5 times, everytime missing some links or forgetting a key word!

kanny96 | 17 years ago | on: Ask HN: The VC and the Geek. Do VC's only care about 'management team'?

I agree with your thoughts. It is sometimes difficult to digest not getting a fair opportunity, but after all, the world outside the school is not, well, the school. I also have EE background, with .95 PhD, and despite being ahead of the tech horizon, it's especially painful to be rubbished by some haphazard investors.

However, i am sure, if i put my full energy behind it, someday it will certainly fly with or w/o VCs on board. So, the real key is perseverance and commitments. And of course, finding like-minded or like-positioned people helps getting there.

kanny96 | 17 years ago | on: Ideas wanted on how to find a qualified co-founder?

It is always tough to find a co-founder. I am also looking for one, my expertise being in voice and natural language technology. I guess it has to do with establishing the trust and that is best done in physical proximity over a few meetings or like love, it can just happen. I am from India, but willing to partner with really motivated people in US. You can contact me on this id at aol.com

kanny96 | 17 years ago | on: Mini, Micro Funds for App Developers

The app review at Apple is already under stress and criticism. But contrary to your facebook example, Apple recently started even being more lenient with app acceptance policy.

It seems they really want to scale the platform to the PC level as more apps on App Store means more iPhone sale as well. And the future is also towards the small form-factor, wire-free, intelligent UI based companion device for all one's information, communication and entertainment needs.
