on: Paperless Office? screw it
tablets and smart phones usually are a lot more distracting. I infact find it annoying when i try to make a point and find someone fiddling with their gadgets, even though they probably are trying to find some facts for the conversation and are not generally yak shaving. But may be again its just me.

on: 7 Things that WILL go wrong when you run a Webinar
Thats a brilliant set of ideas!! Yes i miss software that just used to work. Back a couple of years back i was a big fan of dimdim.
Actually i used to complain about it a lot. And today when i dont have an option, i wish i had dimdim back :)

on: Why you should automate your business process
Startups or otherwise. i personally think, the second something gets too monotonous, follows a set pattern and has only a limited set of outcomes, then it should get automated.

on: Ask HN: What do you dislike about hackathons/startup-weekend type events?
a bit of all that:
* Chronicling the products that were created.
* Having a forum where there is discussion on the MVPs created, to validate it against real market and see if it can be developed into a product.
* A place where the MVP creators can try to find initial customers / beta testers.
Individual networking does not required any post event hand holding, but thats hardly enough to help the MVP to take shape into a full blown product.

on: Ask HN: What do you dislike about hackathons/startup-weekend type events?
I have been to quiet a few startup weekend type events, down here in India. In fact one of the main products i am working on is based out of a weekend hack that happened 6 months ago. To me the most biggest crib-point is the fact that, while most of these events put in considerable amount of effort pre-event, and ensure an amazing event, everyone of them lack when it comes to post event engagement. Without an after event support system in place, most of those hacks do not see the light of the day and the event in itself ends up becoming a terrible cross between a beauty pageant and a spellingbee contest.

on: Ask HN: Please review my new product Tour My App
Hey thanks for the hattip! Infact we created tourmyapp mainly because we found such plugins to be inadequate. We envisioned a solution that will make it easy for app developers to add the tour without any coding. Encoding the tour steps in the page in which it needs to be displayed, ties the tour to the build deploy cycle. We wanted to create a solution that would make creating tours and editing them easy so that the marketeer can go ahead and do it without having to depend on the developers. This also helps clean the developers off any additional workload and also helps ultimately keep the code base cleaner.

what you see in the page is only one of the 25 predefined templates available. you can additionally customize the template to any color you want :) using our theme editor. Even more advanced customization is available through CSS :)

we have been thinking about extending the functionality to mobile apps but i guess its still a long way to go. However if you use phonegap, titanium or something similar, tourmyapp might still work for you :)

on: With great sadness we announce the closing of Fluent.io
Haven't heard much about fluent until now. It does seem to be a problem worth solving and 70,000 signups, does imply that it is a validated problem. Still coming out of the startups world, it feels eerie that a startup would shutdown within 6 months. Is this one more of those many cases, where the cofounders developed a solution for a valid problem, however failed to figure out how to monetize it?

on: Rickshaw: A JS interactive charting library based on D3
From what i read rickshaw is based on d3. So if rickshaw essentially works as a high level wrapper around d3, then there is a possibility that we can get it working on older IEs with the usual d3 hacks.
