How can they identify weight loss as a symptom if they die within 24 hours of becoming ill?

This book is very interesting. It is taking me eons to read because of its density, but it is well worth it.

I'd be willing to bet you haven't looked very hard. Sure the Apple keyboards look nice but the feel and responsiveness of the keys are far from the best.

Serious question: are you joking or is this a serious comment? I can't imagine a company deciding that moving to pinterest or snapchat would be a more efficient method of communication.

No, this is pretty typical in terms and conditions for cloud storage providers.

on: Basic income: the water room analogy
I agree with your argument. Basic income will never work in our society if we are giving it out in the form of spendable money. Basic income in the form of a free amount of utilities provided by the government such as X amount of water and electricity every month I think could work in our capitalist society. Even 'universal' healthcare falls prey to the same flaws as the $1000/month since the quality of the free healthcare will be reduced and the wait times will increase. The best doctors will continue to have private practices that will charge rates that only the richest can afford. As long as capitalism is an integral part of our society, I do not foresee basic income being a good solution to any of our social issues.

on: How many people read HN?
I imagine a lot of people don't register an account until they feel the need to comment on something. I had browsed HN for a long time before I decided to register and the only reason I did register was so I could reply to someones comment. This is of course anecdotal but its easy to imagine the same case for many people.

How do you know that the "fake reviews" that you have in the database to compare to are actually faked?

on: Ask HN: How do you stay motivated to complete your side projects?
Well that is good to know I am not alone in that then. I think I will adopt that idea of tiny side projects so that I will complete them while I am still driven to do it. 20 tiny projects are much more meaningful than zero completed projects.

Another similar workout plan is Stronglifts 5x5[1]. I have never done starting strength but I am a fan of stronglifts and it has a free app that does wonders at the gym for tracking your progress.

I like some of these ideas. The Trial Tuesday could be a nice way for people to get feedback on their WIP projects and perhaps motivate them to keep up and have weekly updates.

on: Show HN: Deaf? My iPhone app wakes you up if it hears an alarm
I too sleep with earplugs in I've noticed something similar. When I take naps during the day and I use the plugs I find that it is the best sleep I get, I feel super refreshed. During the night when I sleep with earplugs in I usually don't sleep as well as I would without them (minus the loud roommates). But I am a side sleeper with a memory foam pillow so it tends to cause some pressure on my ears for prolonged sleep periods.

Always happy to see another Zed Shaw book, especially after seeing how nice and helpful he is to others on HN. If this is anything like Learn Python the Hard Way then you should definitely check it out if you are trying to learn C.

on: Show HN: Enjoy Time Left - Android App that will make you see life differently
I like the idea, but I think that the $2.45 price is pretty high. Also it would be great to see some citations for the references you make as your statements currently lack credibility. I wish the best of luck to you, but to be honest I can't imagine anyone spending that much money on an app like this, especially in this day where everyone considers their $.99 purchases as if it is a heavy investment.
