on: Ask HN: I will become a father tomorrow, what advice could you share with me?
Congrats. 3 things that I found the most useful:
- Know that it will get better. The first period, and periods after, will suck. But it is also very much worth it. When things are at the absolute worst, just remember that this too shall pass.
- We got an octopus teddy from Jellycat - lifesaver! Baby’s hands will pull out the pacifier when they sleep - they wake up - you wake up. The baby could hold on to the tentacles instead of the pacifier, meaning everyone slept better.
- Prep meals when possible. Cooks stews and similar for the freezer for those hard times when you can’t even think of cooking. Will make it easier to get a good meal.
Bonus: sleep whenever possible, and bring the baby to see friends so you don’t become a hermit.

My first though was Ishkur's guide to electronic music as mentioned in another comment, and which hasn't updated in ages.
I then go into the wikipedia, and along to twitter, and see that there's been a countdown going on today - hoping it's a launch of a new version...

It's preposterous. I don't think there should be any patents. At all. Maybe copyright.

Thank god. Too often, they just work as a hindrance to get the help you need.

on: UK mass digital surveillance regime ruled unlawful
I'm not exactly convinced this will change anything. It's the same for Denmark, and even though it was also ruled unlawful, it just continues. They are even planning on expanding it, and sharing data across public inst. without approval.

I love their burgers. But their fries. I had to give up. And I love fries! It was like cardboard, which felt so weird after being able to see the process...

on: I bought a Switch from Nintendo and they threatened me with legal action
After a lengthy lengthy process, I recently only got things moving forward with UPS, after emailing the CEO directly (found the email online, and briefly listed the situation). Soon after I got two calls, and it was fixed relatively fast (still had to follow up twice...).

on: The two questions I ask every interviewer
One of the good interview experiences I had, included going through a project I had previously done, framing the problem, how I'd have worked through it (with class/function level whiteboarding), and what could be improved. It was a project from a previous job, but too high level to be replicated. But could see how going through work from a previous job could be problematic (no code was shown).
