I guess the author never heard of J2ME. One of the reasons why Oracle are up in arms over Android is that it does an end run around their J2ME licence revenue.

Saying that, if Steve Jobs was the devil it would explain a lot.

It probably wouldn't be recognized by most people as the date of the Tiananmen Sq date (to be honest, to me it looks like 6 April 1989, so it's only signifgant if you write dates the way you write dates)

"Surely no one here suggest dropping Linux as the appropriate name for the system?"
Linux based Android doesn't use Linux. Arguably the distro name is now the "primary" name (though this would still leave the FSF people feeling unloved). Thinking about it, I mostly say I use Ubuntu on the Desktop and Android on the phone and tablet and barely ever mention I run Linux nowadays.

It's certainly happened in the UK. The iPhone is available on all the major networks (for free on the higher end contracts) and is available unlocked and SIM free from Apple stores. It hasn't hampered Android's growth to any great extent.

>Having interests that are unstereotypical for your gender and getting seen as cool and progressive rather than freaky and asexual for it.
A male (programmer or otherwise) with interests that are unstereotypical for a male is rarely seen as "cool and progressive" - being seen as freaky and gay is far more likely.

> Having your desk near the entrance to your office without visitors assuming you're the receptionist.
I'm male, I've had the desk near the entrance and guess what - I got treated like a recptionist too. It's not gender, it's that your the first person people come across.

If you really want this feature, maybe you could use Yahoo pipes to modify the feed the way you want it, instead of everyone being forced to use the RSS feed the way you want it.

They quote Alan Sugar saying that the iPod would die by Christmas 2005 and then state "Incidentally, at the time Sugar's Amstrad and Apple were reportedly neck-and-neck in the personal computer race. "
Amstrad haven't been in the computer business since the 1990s (and I doubt they were ever "neck and neck", except maybe in the race to launch a PDA in the early 90s). If they can't get the first item factually correct, I'm wondering if I should bother with the rest.
