on: Poor, Poor Child. You have no idea.
Maybe you should clarify your posting. It reads as
"Well I never had any problems learning to program. I am pretty much the smartest person in the world I guess. My "problem" is that I am so great I have too big of a head."

on: Google’s China move: don’t be played
Exactly. Google is a publicly held corporation, the board is required by law to operate in the best interests of Google.
If keeping Google.cn would make Google a more profitable business, they would keep it. Granted the board can justify just about anything it does so it is not out of the realm of possibility that this is strictly based on morals. It just isn't likely.

Really loved this article. Only 3 points though? This is why I stopped looking at the "Top Rated" HN articles.

on: If You’re Nervous About Quitting Your Boring Job, Don’t Do It
In order to not be nervous this guy first has to finish is Ph.D from MIT. Then and ONLY then will he be able to start a successful company. I would bet that the vast majority of successful software entrepreneurs have much less than a Ph.d. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if even the relative percentages of Bachelors to Ph.ds starting successful companies is higher. In my experience a lot of people go for their PH.Ds because they don't know what they want to do and don't feel like getting a real job.

That's pretty disgusting. Good on you that you are figuring out a noble way to get rid of it.

Excellent! I think I know Unix pretty well, but it would be great if someone had a directory of common use scenarios that one could look through, rather than using Google and wading through horrible forum posts...

Something with stock manipulation could work. Buy a ton of options in some company, like Palm for instance. Then on the release of some hot new gadget, like the Pre, pay a ton of people to wait outside the doors of the vendors. Initial buzz will be that Palm is going to strike it big. Cash in.

Not to detract from this business, but couldn't this just as easily be a checkbox on Dropbox?
Suppose Dropbox wanted to do this, how does YC react? Although I suppose there is lots of room for competition in this space...

on: Aardvark Mulls Over A $30+ Million Offer From Google
I was not making a value judgment on these acquisitions.
However as Google is a publicly traded company, if I were a shareholder I would want to know if my money is being paid to friends of decision makers.
It would be interesting to see how many of Google's acquisitions have involved ex-Googlers?

on: Aardvark Mulls Over A $30+ Million Offer From Google
Who is in charge of acquisitions at Google? Not to say that there isn't awesome tech behind Aardvark, but really 2 ex-Google buyouts in as many days? If I were a shareholder in Google I would be wondering...
Work at Google -> Make friends with your boss -> Build start-up -> Cash in on nepotism?

on: Advice needed: is YC worth it at their valuation?
Hell no, if you are really clearing 1m in profits a YEAR, why would you take 15k and give up 7% of your company? That is absolutely ludicrous. Either you are overstating your companies financials or PG is trying to ream you. I find it hard to believe that you run a company with 1m in profits a year and you have to ask this.

Looks cool, but it is painfully slow (Linux + firefox). Maybe other systems run it better, but for me it is too slow to do much good.
