Yeah I included it only as part of a joke and no one should actually use it because it completely subverts stability and if someone put this in a build script to set that env var it would be very very bad

Yes this is true. I do wish I could have custom operators every now and then though, but that's a whole other bag of complexity and can be ugly if you don't know what each operator means.

I think it's more because we like making development easier and having tools to do that is great because it means I can spend more time with the compiler telling me I coded something wrong.
