missy | 12 years ago | on: Google is working on new tech to eliminate all child porn on the web

Can Tech directly solve it though ? My instinct tell me that perhaps there are some server hosting companies that tolerate such materials who need to be blocked.

You will need to somehow flag users and kick sites out of the index. What will happen as well I assume is that there will be niche forums and as they are tricky it will go on deep.

Any ideas what can be done ?

I m not an expert on fighting crime online. cheers

What I like is that its an honest hands on approach from a founders view with the thus resulting experiences. I work as a VC and I could not explain these observations in the same way and give the feeling of being with you in a bar in a founder to founder relationship.

Look forward to reading more :)

missy | 13 years ago | on: Top 100 VCs Worldwide Twitter Ranking - Agree with the List?

I think this list was curated partly by celebrity status. I checked only the top 5 of that list and the follower number varies , so its not in order of hightest to lowest.

It cannot be fund size as someone like Dave McClure or Jeff Clavier's funds have lower fund size then say Khosala Ventures.

I agree, there should be more info. What I like about it is that so many people have good ideas and with guidance could make it. I learned it myself and you get skimmed countless times due to lack of knowledge and experience, so I believe this great guidance to prevent potential failure from elementary cheating moves or either amateur mistakes. So this one reason in hindsight Id appreciate a service like that.

Do you think this model can work and also in other territories ? Basically people with just ideas can be taken on and then formed to be companies. This is even earlier then Y Combinator. I wonder if this can be done in other countries and what your thoughts are .

missy | 13 years ago | on: Gangnam Style Becomes World’s Most Watched Video With 1 Billion Views in Sight

Do you guys have any favourite spin offs of Gagnam Style ?

The structure is always the same like taking some memorable moments of the video eg at the start the plane or the guy shaking his pelvis in the lift , then take some other stereotype or celebrities in it. So I actually wonder how many more views came from the parodies.

Last similar wave I remember was the "shit says " series maybe 6 months ago that had a similar formula.

here some examples:

Sick and tired of all the hype around Berlin. Startup Genome confirms with figures that there is more substance in areas like Tel Aviv which is not as heavily covered. What are your views , especially people from the other top 20 cities . cheers

How would you entice users to use this tool. Is it whitelabel for the company to then post on social media sites to be answered by job applicants.

I think an interesting aspect is something of a competition aspect as well . Gamnes or competion with others to show how you act under pressure. Psychological tests.

How do you incentivise users to do it ? when i email apple for example for a job I feel i m directly with apple, in this case there is a middle man? Whitelabelling could be a solution to prevent anyonomity.

I would only offer this type of offer maybe on jobs where they want a filter , and if you get X amount of points, you can then only submit your cv. I would see this tool as a bouncer in a club, not let everyone in so there is less work and then as the bouncer ( your tool ) to filter them out.

Think of pareto 80 20 . The majority of time wasters and dum b asses are in the 100 % group, you can easily knock out many at that stage through automisation, the other stuff is to resource rich in demand, so your wasting time. So this tool I d say is best a door man to reach the telephone interview stage.

eg Job Offer --) Do tests , if you get 80 % you get submission form --) submit application

thats where the money is and most help. I would forget the other stages. make sure you reduce it as much as possible for even the CV screening stage. You ll save so many man hours that even a 100 $ a month fee is worth nada

cool idea and greetings from Berlin

missy | 14 years ago | on: Can Facebook achieve a Synthesis between Instagram and their own App?

Yes , your right about the public and private aspect. I guess then from my original statement only the users from Facebook would initially compliment Instagram for more content.

What I like about Instagram is that many people put effort to put up creative photos. From a business view that could actually be in some sense used commercially cause they are nice and high quality. Something people may want on their T Shirt or select 12 images and make a calendar. Imagine like Getty Images or maybe a printing service like Vista Print.

I ve worked in IT companies like this in Berlin and people coming from the Samwer school. They have very high ideals, which their skills and resources cannot meet, and their goals can be met early as they are clones piggy backing of the original american company.

When they hit a point like i assume now, where they cannot freeload of the original, and real problems that need real new solutions emerge, that can be solved only with brains, and not brutish force, they implode.

Using the old Platonic concepts of the IDEAL " A copy cannot ever be as good as its original". The Samwers exploited that most of the innovative work could be cloned from Groupon hard early but risky phase, and in Berlin you can hire very cheaply and there is a lophole in the German Intern law.

Dont forget most operations are done in Berlin, this is vital for the whole company.

Mason please fix this .. I love your restaurant coupons

These guys are well known for people cloners in Europe. There is a lot of press about them so its interesting to hear what people in american think about them. Most recently they tried to clone Air BnB and went into competion with them , their site is called Wimdo. Im interested to see if more articles come out about the Arguements for cloning US Sites in Europe and how you can prevent. Highly recommend

missy | 14 years ago | on: Euro Clones

I live in Berlin and I see non stop clones, I just would like to hear views from users in the US , how they feel about such blatent cloning.

I find they hold back the scene for people with great new ideas in europe as investors invest a lot more in these " safe bets " .

missy | 14 years ago | on: Harvard University Free Lectures

I m doing online studies at the University of London ( http://www.londoninternational.ac.uk/ ) and we have in some modules to every section a Video to give an overview and PDF for revision and Quizzes for testing yourself. The actual exam can be taken on campus or at your near British Consulate or Embassy.

Its pretty hard studying this way in comparision to study on campus. but far more convient and cheaper.

I assume that this is the same with other US Online studies like at Harvard or Standford. I just notice that the lectures in the Harvard videos that I ve watched, they seem to be aware of Online Students watching this later as an recording, and they are far more appealing to watch.

This is the Youtube channel to my Online Uni

http://www.youtube.com/user/UniofLondon?blend=16&ob=5

This Video id say is a better one, but many others are bad to watch online.

http://www.youtube.com/user/UniofLondon?blend=16&ob=5#p/...

I wonder what you thought of the British Style in this video to the US ones you have seen.

thanks

I know in stocks you can sell futures. So you say, the shares are worth 1$ today as a fresh start up, in 2 years we will buy them back of you for 20 $, if the share is worth over 20$.

If your are Zynga and you are confident that they could go above that its a good buy and the worker feels a bit more secure but wont earn these too high returns that Zynga may not like .

Sorry if my application of basic futures to Zynga are bit off, hope explains more or less what I mean, my memory is flaky here.

missy | 14 years ago | on: Your number one priority

Tim Ferriss made some excellent observations and developed methods on how to optimise your time related to work and personal time. I ve tested several his hypothesis and they did have some impact on me.

I just bought the 4 hour body and I can see this same thinking of his this " 80 / 20 " Paretos Law. I think if you can read both these books , snythesis Body and Lifestyle using his principle based on the 80 / 20 you will see great changes.

Richard Branson is role model to many of us but he is very wealthy and as he mentions in the video that he has an Island that helps, Ferriss guide offers a perfect low cost alternative.

Recommend !

Although they competed very strongly there was still very deep respect. Very admirable.

The quote “It’s your heart running around outside your body.”in reference to his own children is how I think we can perceive his love for his products and why we in turn loved his creations. Same passion.
