It should be mentioned that it normally only occurs when well trained people stop working out for a couple of weeks and then get into it again at full speed.

If you are used to working out hard, you won't get rhabdomyolysis.

So if you're pretty fit but stopped working out for a while, get into it with moderation!

To everyone else: don't be scared of rhabdomyolysis and work out!

>I started to realize that assembly language was real programming. BASIC was just an imitation of programming.

That's exactly why I couldn't be happy if I only knew some high level languages like Java / Python / C#.

After learning an assembly language and C I feel much more comfortable using any other language. You know the real thing.

> So what went wrong? The short answer is: a lot more people logged on than we expected. More people played and played in ways we never saw in the beta.

How can the play style of people have such an impact on the servers?

Sure there could have been people spamming buildings in order to produce high traffic. But that's sounds like an unlikely exceptional case.

Why do corporations spend resources in mounting the JRE to their devices? Wouldn't it be much simpler to use the instruction set of the hardware and write stuff in C / Assembly?

I am asking because my first language was Java and after learning C / gnu AS it feels much more comfortable to actually have control over the resources you are using than relying on the magic the JRE does for you.

I wonder how this post got to the top even though the sentiment in the comments is that this posts sucks.

The author obviously feels humiliated by the show. What annoyed me about this post is how much time the author spends on pointing out how "cruel" TBBT is treating him and his fellow nerds. At one point I even got angry how sensitive he is. People make fun of geeks, get over it. I am under the impression that he wrote himself in some kind of rage and lost track of realism after a while.

TBBT is not supposed to defend geeks / nerds it's supposed to make the majority of people laugh and it succeeds.

His points are valid but his sentiment is over the top.

Don't review the letter from today's perspective.

Bill Gates didn't know that his work will spread over the world and he will become one of the richest persons alive.

He didn't know that there will be a huge open source community in the future, where it is normal to develop software for free.

All he knew is that he was working fulltime on something for three years and wasn't payed for it.

For me this letter is just a snapshot of the past with an understandable point of view.
