The way I think about it, the training data (i.e. the internet) has X% of people asking something like "explain it to me like I'm five years old" and Y% of people framing it like "I'm technical, explain this to me in detail". You use the "act as a senior XXX" when you want to bias the output towards something more detailed.

There was a report commissioned into alleged bias at the BBC called the Balen Report. Some people report that it found no bias, but it hasn't been published to this day.

I gotta say it's been interesting finding online discourse that denies an atrocity that occurred only a few months ago. Never really paid attention when people talked about holocaust denial and denial of the Armenian genocide but now finding comments implying hamas did not torture, rape and murder their way across southern Israel when we have literal video footage of these savages enjoying their orgy of violence makes me understand those people a bit better.
