would be great to have Rust bindings so it could work with Tauri. With tauri growth and the upcoming mobile devices support coupled with SQLite recent hype, this could bridge the gap and solve many problems for offline-first apps, thus become the go to solutions for many dev shops.

this makes you wonder if apple specs where designed to enhance the user experience or just to gate-keep the access to thier lucrative market. If the later, and I highly believe so, then can we blame others to come up with workarounds?

I would say no but then I am using SQLite which contradicts my statement.

I believe it depends on the project at hand, just like with every dependency/library we use, we barely look at the source code unless the task at hand was mission critical.
