Yes! I went from Stuttgart to Berlin using the Schoeneswochenende Fahrkarte like 20 year ago, it took some time but since we were a group of friends, it was fun actually :) Ahh.. good memories

Argentinian here, I built my house about 10 years ago with a fixed rate mortgage subsidized by the government. It was subsidized only for people that didn't own a house already. It was a 16 years mortgage. First year I paid about the same as someone renting a house. Past year I was paying about only 10 dollars per month, so I cancelled it :)

But yeah, as far as I know, at the moment there are no fixed rate mortgages.

Any ideas or platforms for game development for a nine years old kid without any real programming background?

My kid is finishing Blocky Games from Google. I think it was a good start, he isn't hooked into programming but at least he had some fun and learned some concepts, like loops. Now I have no idea on where should I guide him to now. I was thinking about Python Turtle, but he will probably get bored. Will take a look at Game Maker, but looks too much for a kid, good for teenagers perhaps.

The first time, you can use a Yogurt without artificial flavor. Afterward, you can reuse the Yogurt made the first time. Or just use a common Yoghurt from the store. You can use less than 0.2L the first time because the artificial flavor mixed with the natural Yoghurt flavor will not taste that good. The second time and afterward you can use the Yogurt made the first time, the artificial flavor will be diluted.

EDIT: Warning, I do not know how many times can you safely reuse the Yogurt. I've reused the 'same' Yogurt several times without any issue, but please do your research. Of course, I store it in the fridge.

This is how I make yogurt:

Step 1: Put 1 liter of milk mixed with 0.2 liter of Yogurt on a heating radiator at 11PM.

Step 2: Wake up at 7AM. Yogurt is ready.

nick_meister | 5 years ago | on: Ask HN: How do you manage self-study?

> I prefer depth over breadth. > I stick to one course at a time, full inmersion.

Oh, the opposite is working for me. I’m learning about three things at the same time. Reasons:

- Too much time on the same topic and I get tired. For example, I’m learning databases. If I spend one hour per day every day on learning databases, after two months I get bored on the topic. But if I learn databases on Mondays and Fridays, I’m still motivated after several months.

- Spaced repetition. I’m learning Python, SQL and data science. If I’d spend one year for SQL, one year for Python, and one year for Linear Algebra, on the fourth year I’d forgot SQL :). I prefer to learn a limited set of related things simultaneously. All three are fresh in the fourth year and spaced repetition makes learning more effective.

Pardon my ignorance about compilers, Haskell, and programming in general (I have no background in CS, please don't roast me :), but cannot the Glasgow Haskell Compiler (GHC) produce a (binary executable) package that could run in Linux/Windows without having Haskell?

nick_meister | 6 years ago | on: Things That Turbo Pascal Is Smaller Than (2011)

I agree with brnt, while Delphi/Object Pascal seem to be quite popular according to the Tiobe Index, https://www.tiobe.com/tiobe-index/delphi-object-pascal/, I find it hard to find open-source projects when comparing it with other programming langs. Example:

  https://github.com/search?q=Rust 85,885 repository results

  https://github.com/search?q=delphi 9,938

  https://github.com/search?q=pascal 9,259
Maybe:

* Open source Delphi/Pascal are shared elsewhere?

* Delphi Programmers do not like to showcase or open-source their projects?

* Delphi/Pascal is used to create mainly proprietary software?

Either way, I think that for Free Pascal to prosper in the long term, something should change. Perhaps more open source projects published on Github/Gitlab.

Every market is different.

As I see it, there are many factors at play: - Network effects - Economies of scale (usually not large in software development) - Other barriers to entry?

How important each of these is, depends on each particular market. In some cases, some coordination between agents could achieve better results.

Regarding network effects, uncoordinated efforts or competition between a lot of agents could lead to an inefficient solution that is very hard to change without coordination of resources (perhaps the QUERYT keyboard layout, that was created for old mechanical keyboards?).

Anyway, I don't think this is the case for UIs, but perhaps in other cases, some coordination could be better for long term results without sacrificing innovation.

Besides that, in a capitalist economy, inside every company/organization, there is some sort of 'Top down planning' and coordination between resources (Example: Alphabet: Google Search, Youtube) to gain efficiency and efficacy.

Awesome thanks! I live in a small city near Cordoba surrounded by mountains, lakes and rivers, and don't like big cities like Buenos Aires or Rosario. How much do you think is needed for renting a medium comfortable appartment or house in Berlin? In a not expensive neighborhood, but neither a bad one.

Will send you a PM if I have more questions :)
