I can confirm the same on Fedora Linux. More specifically, the command exits on `fakeroot`.

on: Ask HN: What was your greatest accomplishment in 2016?
It wasn't until I really grokked YNAB's methodology[1] that I got out of the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle, saved up for an emergency fund, and begun seriously paying off school loans. Their 4 rules and their app have changed my financial life. Like atarian said, having a budget really does free you.

All good advice. One thing I would recommend is to wear wool when possible; even when wet, it's insulating properties are unmatched. I used to have a pair of wool trousers that kept me warm while winter camping in Katahdin.

It is incredible that someone with such wealth and power could remain deeply rational and humble. This is so true. And, from what I gather from the "A Guide..." book, Marcus wasn't much a fan of people (although, that may just be the interpretation of Irvine), which I think speaks to his great character to be loved by so many in spite of that.
Epictetus was another great Stoic philosopher, having been born a slave and yet live a "good" life (not even sure that needs quotes around good). That's another book to the "To Read" list; thank you!

Thank you too for the recommendation. They actually have his translation at the Boston Public Library so I've placed it on hold.

on: Meditations
I've been reading "A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy" by William B. Irvine and Marcus Aurelius is one of the 4 eminent Stoics featured in that book. His "Meditations" is referred to often. I've found the philosophy behind Stoicism to be very helpful in my day job coding and at managing a team. One of the most useful practices is knowing the difference between what you can control, what you have no control over at all, and those things that you have some but not complete control (i.e. I can play to the best of my ability in a tennis match but the outcome is not really up to me). It's incredible to think that Marcus was sick (with an ulcer, more than likely), his wife probably cheated on him, out of 14 children, only 6 survived, and he was emperor! And yet, when he died, their was a public outcry.
So, after reading "A Guide to the Good Life" and now that I've read your article, I'm definitely inclined to pick up "Meditations" for my next read. Thanks for the insights!

I agree with many of the things @canthonytucci said. My biggest thing is that I need Vim keybindings to feel 'normal' inside my editor and, for the life of me, can't find out how to enable them in Light Table. The commands and views I use/see in my LT installation on Fedora 19 do not look like or act like the docs. It's extremely frustrating. I'm willing to muddle through learning a new text editor. I also really want to like this editor but I find it hard to do so when the docs aren't matching what I see.
[edit]: cleaned up text for clarity.

on: Some will always say you're wrong
This is so true! I've been told the very same thing. Being kind, in some people's minds, is a flaw in one's self. I feel, very strongly, that if every person in this world looked out for all of our best interests, we would be much happier. I truly don't understand how it's possible for someone to not offer help or assistance if it's in their power to do so. Sometimes, humanity in people complete astounds me.

on: Ask HN: Which computer/laptop do you use?
It's pretty good. I did have some issues installing Fedora the first few times. I'm not sure if it's something I did but the very first time I installed Fedora, I thought I bricked the MBA. Couldn't get anywhere past the Disk Utility. But, I reformatted the drive twice, let it sit for an hour, and then attempted the install again. The second time is when I couldn't get the wireless working so I tried one more time and it went successfully. I actually installed Fedora 17 because that was the latest at the time. However, everything is running very smoothly now. Fedora is wicked fast on the SSD. As for battery life, it's very comparable to the native OS; I've gone just over 4 hours before needing to worry; I think the longest I've gone is around 5 hours. The weird thing is that I have double battery indicators in the tray when unplugged from the power cord. I've got it hooked up to an external monitor and that works; closing the lid puts the laptop to sleep. I've also encrypted my hard drive and the only issue I noticed there is that if you don't type in your password relatively soon after boot, the OS will fail to load so you have to force the shut down and restart. Feel free to email me any specific questions if you want.

At home, I'm running a MacBook Air 13" (2011) but with Fedora 18 installed directory on it (no VM or Bootcamp). Love the hardware of Mac but not particularly fond of their OS. Absolutely love it.
At work, I've got a Dell Latitude something-or-other running Fedora 18 as well.
Linux is yummy goodness.

On linux, whether it's Chrome or Firefox, none of the videos play. Really great experience but would love to see the videos. When I get home, I'll have to pop open my Mac to get the full experience.

I have to agree with the first point of the article regarding 'Invite Only' - this has been one of the biggest headaches in all of the projects I've been involved in. It seems there is little to gain in preventing people to sign up with your app. It doesn't seem to increase interest for users and, in all reality, denying access when the visitor is ready to sign up is just not smart. Numbers count; 10,000 potential users doesn't seem to be as strong a number as 1,000 actual users.
