on: UK ruling makes Internet browsing a copyright risk
I seriously think that most of the copyright folks dont get what is information law and policy. Especially, in Europe. People still think "bits" as "atoms". I guess it will take at least a decade to bring significant change in the way they think as old guard will be leaving the post.

on: MTV News covers "The Internet", video from 1995
I love all the websites! Flashy and totally original. Anyways, its interesting to see lot of people were referring to Internet as "cyber space", which was prevalent during those days. Surprisingly, nobody refers to Internet as cyberspace now a days.

on: The Patent Troll Myth
"So what do these patent trolls do that is so wrong? Apparently, the answer is that patent trolls do not manufacture the technology that is embodied by the patents that they seek to enforce. But is this really wrong? The answer to this should be a resounding ‘No’. Consider the names of some individual inventors who ultimately formed companies to exploit their ideas, yet initially manufactured nothing: Westinghouse (air brake), Ford (car), Gillette (razor), Otis (elevator), Goodyear (synthetic rubber), Kellogg (grain harvester), DuPont (gun powder), Owens (glass) and Fermi (neutronic reactor). This list represents just a few of the individuals who, in most cases, worked alone and without corporate support, yet created not just new inventions, but whole new industries that today employ millions of people."
I guess they executed their ideas too...
It's a well written article, what does HN think?

on: When Patents Attack
I agree with you and I feel the same! As a co-founder, I recently did risk analysis for next iteration of our product; for everything we had risk mitigation strategy in place. But for "getting sued"; we will be screwed and shut down the business (if its hundreds of thousands dollar claim)

Wrong generalization. How many fortune 500 CEOs are from India? I can count on my fingers (correct me if I'm wrong)
P.S. Part of my ethnicity is Indian..

on: A note to Google recruiters (and on Google hiring practices)
Agreed. By the way I remember talking with Google recruiter when recently I was in school (one of the west coast elites) doing my masters; he told me the best way to get into Google is via internship. I was interested in working at startup for internship and told him the same. He bluntly told me that its impossible for me to get a job at Google then.. :)
P.S. His prediction was true and I never interviewed at Google. However, I got job offer from one of their biggest rival :)

on: A note to Google recruiters (and on Google hiring practices)
Little bit off-topic; at least you get interview call from GOOG. I've never had that privilege of interviewing with Google. Though I've always applied for their design positions. And I was always referred by someone working at Google (and that too stellar recommendations). I've interviewed with all the biggies (including some of the hottest companies) but never with Google.
P.S. By the way, I have undergrad in CS too

on: Why My Father Hated India
Who says there are no extremists in Hinduism? Every religion has its fair share.
And its true our neighbor is a failed state and made everything terrible. Given a choice about living in India or any of our neighbors, everyone will choose India. Because we are pluralistic society where every religion is respected, which is not true about our neighbor!
And this article doesn't appeal India's self conception, this article speaks reality!

on: Why My Father Hated India
Minority in Hindu majority ruinous?
Our last president was not Hindu. By the way, He is one of the most celebrated intellectual in India. Some of the most popular actors/actresses in Bollywood are not Hindu. People like Azim Premji are not Hindu. I can cite many more such examples.
I have bunch of my friends who are not Hindus and asked about situation like partition once again, they always say they will choose India come what may.
The whole idea of our neighboring country is based on the myth that in Hindu majority country no other religion can flourish. On contrary, every other religion flourished in India but same cannot be said about our neighbors.
Edit: Cleaned few grammatical errors
