That’s not quite correct. YouTube pays out creators who monetize their channels using YouTube ads (separate from any sponsors in the video itself). The amount paid out varies but is around $3-5 per 1000 views.

With YouTube Premium, among other features you get to avoid seeing ads. But Google still pays out creators a share of the YouTube Premium fee. See https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6306276

One factor that wasn't mentioned here (probably because people don't really mention it publicly) that I've anecdotally heard of from a number of people in tech who've made the SF->NYC move is the better gender and career diversity there. For men this can equate to a better dating lifestyle, and just in general some want to be surrounded by people besides tech bros.

Regarding politics, I wonder if another way to interpret this is people who find San Francisco too liberal (or unsupportive of Trump) and want to move somewhere more representative of how a majority of the country (however you define that) thinks.

ohleg | 10 years ago | on: Years You Have Left to Live, Probably

The thing about this tool is it answers the following question: given your gender and your age (and no other data about you), based on CDC data of mortality in the US, how many more years do you have left to live?

In reality, you'd likely better be able to predict your remaining years if you have more details about yourself (you should, unless you're Benjamin Kyle). Are you a long-term heavy smoker, overweight like most Americans, or do you work in a dangerous job like construction? You're more likely to live less. On the other hand, do you have a safe job, stay physically fit, and avoid alcohol and drugs? You're more likely to live more.

Cool! I'm the developer of AnGoIde (the Go IDE that runs right on your Android device) and actually one of the future features was an option to generate APKs for custom CLI Go apps on Android; e.g., with a bootstrap GUI that just executes a Go binary. One challenge is supporting both ARM (different versions) and the x86 (gaining popularity) architectures, so I'm interested to see how the official tools will accommodate that going forward.

You can actually see it with the naked eye.

The other thing was that if you downloaded the sound file and looked at the metadata, the author's name had that same phone number.

You can disable this behavior by unchecking the checkbox in Settings -> Display -> Scroll title bar.

I agree, but for the time being you can still click on the actual button, which will let you view/edit the entire URL.
