Telling the user that "he/she" messed up is the best way to get them to abandon your website.

Clearly explaining that there was a problem, the problem has been sent to the appropriate individual, and guiding them to potential solutions is a better approach.

Sending unsolicited emails is not against the law. CAN-SPAM law states that users must be able to opt out of receiving emails after they receive the email. There is nothing against the law of random companies sending emails to any individual they like, regardless of a previous business relationship.

Opt In is a cultural idea, not a legal one.

We are located in New York City but remote work is totally fine.

We are rebuilding the backend of our application on Google AppEngine. Solid Python/Django skills are required. AppEngine experience would be a big plus. Familiarity with browser addons/extensions is also a big plus (Chrome, Firefox, IE).

Remote work totally fine. We prefer at least 10 hrs a week that you can commit. 20+ hrs would be great.

Would love to see work samples, github code, resume, random facebook photos, and blood samples. (kidding)

Here's an idea. Create a demo account so anyone can jump right in and experience the product first hand before having to sign up. Maybe make it so all recent changes get deleted every 24 hours or so to maintain a properly configured account (or even flush out all the user updates after their session expires).

With so many task management / project management apps on the market it's quite difficult to differentiate yourself and prove your value with just a snazzy looking homepage (it is a nice design, but so are the 100+ tools I've looked at).

Take a look at the way rule.fm does their tour (screenshots/videos). Very easy to get to those areas and
