I think we can help academia by using web apps to create ease off some of the computational requirements needed for papers like factor analysis, MDS, multiple regression etc. - also for surveys etc. My educated guess is that some of the confirmatory factor analysis for something seminal like Hofsteder's work could easily be done in various countries if the people working on the papers have someone with a web app development backgroun.

taught 300 students in Kabul, Afghanistan at one go (English Class) - what we did was we had PowerPoint, we had a microphone (connected to a mixer and JBL speakers) - and everyone had a sheet so they can follow the lessons, even had think-pair-share (using the PowerPoint as prompts) - had 5 of these classes going at the same time in Kabul University and 1 at the Kabul Polytechnic simultaneously. So you could ask 300 students all at the same time if you set it up properly :)

couldn't you theoretically attain ramen profitable with minimal fire fighting and NOT create new features - case in point - 37Signals - assuming they didn't have that big base to start with - they could just have been cruising at ramen profitable and not have added a new feature (which I think they've still refused to do so ...)
