There used to be theory of management and of organisation, that somehow got lost along the way, with only vestiges popping up here and there in stuff like the Toyota model, the original ideas behind agile and stuff like team topologies...but almost everything is these ... cargo cult organisations, that just blindly implement whatever rituals this or that business consultant recommends and hope for the best ...

To be fair, CEOs are also kinda useless... on a more serious notes, these consultants are more like priests of capital, there to prosletize whatever new cargo-cult framework is popular (without actually making any real change mind you).
I kind of like some old consulting literature from the 70s and 80s,especially the cybernetics stuff, as it seems like it's genuinely scientific and trying to improve things. Just the quality of writing in i.e. "Brain of the Firm", is so much more complex and erudite than what you see coming out in the field now.

There is nothing wrong with goofing around or slacking off. Cause for your 300k your boss makes 300 000 000, and his work is going golfing and having fancy dinners, and calling it work.
If you have fallen for the corporate bullshit and push yourself to work hard, that is on you. We should be organising and pushing for everyone to barely work and have decent salaries, not just whoever has the top job in demand this decade ...

It's only been high due to historic reasons and hype. Business has been on a decades crusade to push down payment for the software labor aristocracy, and to be fair security has nothing to do with it too. There is absolutely no inherent reason why someone should get higher compensation but get a less secure job, beyond the hype for that job, and security should be guaranteed regardless.

Far from it. What is cringe however is that not all employees get these, like in normal countries, and that we create artificial division between highly paid devs and "normal people", cause newsflash - they are normal. And they are much closer to you than to their bosses. Only difference is they may have a few more months before homelessness hits, and maybe more brainwashed into thinking they're different. What we all need is solidarity.

I think there is something there about the micro-managing. A company is "buying" a certain amount of time from you, and wants to make sure it is squeezing the absolute maximum they can(and even more). Working from home means they cannot keep track of your every minute, and you may be ... gasp ... stealing time from them

On one hand they do read the same articles, on the other, the set of investors and owners is much smaller, and generally older/more resistant to change than the people who run the companies companies, and these investors are likely the ones that put this pressure on everyone. Hence why it all sounds the exact same.
