on: California moves to decriminalize use of magic mushrooms, other psychedelics
My opinion is throwing people in prison and confiscating their stuff is wrong unless they’ve violated someone’s person or property. Drugs can be legal as long as crimes committed under the influence of drugs are properly punished.

Magic mushrooms do not cause zombification, that’s opiates mostly especially fentanyl.

on: Opposites don't actually attract: meta-analysis study
It’s surprising anyone would publish or conduct this research, as it presents a problem for “blank slate theory”. If human mating is assortive, then corellations between parent and child socioeconomic status are likely to be substantively due to genetic factors rather than solely oppression. The alternative would be a theory of “genetic oppression” requiring some sort of genetic equity, but that route is a trap for progressive thought due to that movement’s historical love of eugenics.

Use them as trash liners or you can cut them to make doggy doodoo bags.

I loved the new plastic bags in California ever since they came out. Those old weak bags always ripped and tore. Had no idea the new ones were reusable! They make much better trash liners than the old ones.

I mean the drug users that punched my car, break windows, yell at all hours, stole my best friends bike tire, and shit around every corner even though there are plenty of public toilets. Don’t care whether it’s “legal”.

People should be allowed to take whatever substances they want, as long as they stay away from my neighborhood. I’ve moved as far away from drug users as I could and it was the best decision to increase my productivity, lower my stress, and increase my physical safety I’ve ever made.

It’s definitely localized. most societies don’t look favorable on drug use including most of east Asia, south and south east Asia, Middle East, and more.

Because of the censorship and self censorship of science, it’s impossible for outsiders to know what happened one way or another. Linking to a journal article doesn’t solve that problem.

I don’t think currying is esoteric at all, and if someone told me in a code review that it’s “too complex” I’d start looking for a new job immediately, since it’s a career dead end if the reviewer doesn’t even understand simple functional programming.
That said sadly these days I’m working on smart contracts in Solidity which is object oriented, and the primary functional alternative Vyper has had major problems while Rust has proven to be slower to develop in, at least for cosmwasm chains (I still hold out hope for Rust). So you could have a point lol.

Platforms never tell me why I’ve been banned, so I don’t know. But I’ve been banned at some point by every social media platform I’ve used except hacker news and Google.

If you are relying on a third party social media platform for your business:
- make sure you have at least 3 aged accounts that have full administrative privileges. When one gets banned make/buy a new one immediately.
- never use a business account for personal reasons
- use a third party service for the sms verification, and a unique email for each account.
These three rules have kept me out of trouble in spite of repeated bans.

I wish they used irc instead of discord, the UX options available are much better. As it is I can barely use mid journey.

on: Pooling and Sharing of wealth makes everyone's wealth grow faster
Sure if you can find a geography where your benefits are greater than your costs compared to a different, by definition that is doing more - efficiency is great. Reducing costs doesn’t always mean a net reduction in output; if I can work 1 hour a day and earn enough to fill my remaining hours with happy activities, that’s clearly less productive than working 8 hours a day and not having time to do what I want. Of course usually what happens for many people is they work less, get less, and don’t find a way to happily use the free time. That’s why people are constantly trying to migrate to countries with relatively higher productivity. Obviously not your case.

There’s two main approaches to economics that aren’t bullshit: empiricism and praxeology. With empiricism, you conduct some sort of experiment (or identify a natural experiment) than can verify falsifiable predictions. With praxeology, you work from first principles regarding rational agents. Both mechanisms result in insights that “work” meaning institutions can use these insights to modify their policies. An easy to understand example is the application of the economics to MMORPG game currencies. But these more generally are applied by finance and government departments everywhere. There is a degree of bullshit that enters when there’s a political dynamic, such as with unemployment rate stats or gdp growth stats.

on: Pooling and Sharing of wealth makes everyone's wealth grow faster
Going back to the original article, the subject is regarding ergodicity and economic benefits of cooperation. The commenter I’m replying to extended an analogy to claim that this research extends to certain countries social welfare system. My position is that this extension is outright false, that just because cooperation can create benefits under the conditions of the research, it doesn’t demonstrate economic growth results from social welfare policies.
