It's a .io domain, not a .com, so it's more hip

on: Google faces Russia Android probe after Yandex protest
I'm surprised there haven't been more lawsuits like this. I expect we'll see more suits like this, plus some about bundling of Chrome, and even about making Google the default search engine in Chrome.

on: A polite rant on mobile UX
I couldn't agree more with point one on the 'ow zone.' I really can't understand why since ICS, google insists on putting so many important UI elements at the top of the screen, even as screens are getting bigger and bigger.

on: WhatsApp doesn't understand the web
Plus one of the reasons whatsapp is useful is because you know your contacts have it on their phone, so it's like sending them a text message. If they made a standalone web client that you could use without a phone, it becomes just another IM platform.

on: First set of Android apps for ChromeOS
Well it seems that now that they have two strong platforms, google have given up the pretence of pushing the open web. The open web made sense for them in a world dominated by Microsoft, but now that they have the dominant mobile platform and the most popular browser, they no longer need it.

on: CLion, the new C/C++ IDE from JetBrains
Yeah, I've been using AppCode for C++ on OS X for a while, and switched to CLion a week or so ago. CLion doesn't provide much more on OS X other than native support for CMake projects, but unlike AppCode I can use it on Linux as well.
