The young single employee will probably not afford to live in a big city and have a short commute.

I know some of the banks in the list. They're using Oracle DB for their core financial databases and MySQL only for secondary non-mission critical systems, not really related to their core business.

I also have the same opinion as you do. I’m also a Java programmer who develops in Python sometimes. It’s easy to start programming in Python, but Python is a lot more difficult than Java to master. The Java language is a lot smaller than Python, you can keep the whole language in your head, unlike Python.

Between Ruby and Python I’d choose Python. Rust is too low level and picky wrt memory book keeping. I miss the GC. Elixir would make me have to deep in the Erlang and BEAM world, I find it interesting but don’t want to go that way at the moment.
