IANAL, but just after that:

    17602...
    (c) In addition to the requirements of subdivision (b), a consumer who accepts
an automatic renewal or continuous service offer online shall be allowed to
terminate the automatic renewal or continuous service exclusively online, which
may include a termination email formatted and provided by the business that
a consumer can send to the business without additional information.
though it seems to only apply if the agreement was made online.

I was about to comment about how it took me several reads and then finally reading the "compound commands" section of `BASH(1)` to recognize the use of `(` vs `{` in the examples. That distinction should have been made clear in the example IMO.

psetq | 7 years ago | on: The Universe Is Not a Simulation, but We Can Now Simulate It

It's still an extremely interesting article imo.

I sometimes read hn as the discussions here can add to articles on topics I find interesting but have limited knowledge on, but the 3+ top comment threads (so far) discussing the title and not content of this article is somewhat disappointing.

You're cherry-picking examples here. The "local farmer's co-op" is not a good representation of the advertising industry in general, and not likely to be very interested in utm tracking like that discussed in this thread.

Using "evil" like the upstream comments is a bit strong imo, but it's certainly not known for being a particularly "honest" industry.

All three of your questions can be answered by either using my own judgement, or reaching out to people more familiar with what I'm trying to accomplish with the product/purchase.

I'd trust a mechanic's opinion on what tools to buy much more than a tool company marketing department. I'd expect this type of thinking (being sceptical of "marketing") is pretty much common sense these days.

Somewhat off topic, but If you're interested in the history of modern computing and not already familiar with the Xerox PARC [0] story, you should know that Xerox has a fascinating history of computer research innovation, and is often regarded as one of the real major driving forces behind the P.C. as we know it.

An interesting account (as well as a great deal more about the rest of the history of modern computers) is documented in the book "The Dream Machine" [1], which I highly recommend if you find this sort of stuff interesting.
