I was trying to figure out an affordable way to send "Read Later" articles in voice to mobile device, either as podcast or other format, to keep myself relevant while driving to/from office.

I realized this tool might not be cheap, since it may take the voice actor/actress 2 hours per day to produce my content (2-hour driving commuting per day for me). To get familiar local accent, it costs ~$36 in Australia, and maybe slightly cheaper for US accent. The value it brings me can hardly justify the cost.

Now, with Polly, things changed - it produces reasonable voice, and 2-hour content would only cost ~$0.3. I decided to launch my service as soon as Instapaper approves my API request.

This is awesome.

> Create a single or multi-user business account, approve orders

This alone is a killing point. If all the orders to the same company (location) are aggregated and shipped based on a predefined schedule (like every Monday).

And with this, pantry can be filled with food that people actually want.

It's Easter break in Australia - 4 days weekend.

I'm working on http://www.hackathonwatch.com It's a hackathon discovery site - it helps you discover new hackathons.

I've been working on it for several months, but did not really get a chance to add "watch/monitor" feature.

qsun | 14 years ago | on: Ask HN: How do we promote Australia's marketplace for books?

Why another market? Why people don't use gumtree/ebay or whatever forum to sell their used books?

Compare to cars/houses, books are quite simple - the only practical searchable attribute is the book name. Thus no point to dedicate a website just for the book.

I would suggest u guys change strategy to build a book-trade website, for example, I can give my used books to you, and you would owe me 1 book-point, then I can use the book-point to purchase used books from someone else.

And for books, a community is more important than marketplace, probably you should add more web-2.0 elements into it.

Also, I personally don't understand why so many australian websites put geotrust logo at the footer - it is tooooo ugly.

555 is such a beautiful thing, it has more than 1000 functions. The only thing I can imagine to compete with it is 7400

node.js is Evented I/O. It might not be a perfect match for mail server. Not like in Comet or other similar situations, SMTP sessions are highly batched and not that human-interactive. There might be very little inactive open connections on a typical mail server.

But based on document, "Haraka's primary purpose is to provide you with a much easier to extend mail server than most available SMTP servers out there such as Postfix, Exim or Microsoft Exchange, yet while still running those systems for their excellent ability to deliver mail to users."

No, she did not encourage violence, actually she was trying to shame racists in an irony manner.

In plain English, that tweet reads, You stupid anti-Japan racists, why do not you guys go to Shanghai World Expo and destroy Japanese Show? You guys are only be brave enough to destroy consuming goods imported from Japan.
