on: How many hours of work does that purchase cost?
Dan Ariely has made an app that does something like this, although instead of looking at the number of hours it takes to pay for something he compares it to what alternatives you could buy, so if you like coffee and you want to book a book you see how many coffees you would have to give up to get the book, similar but equally interesting concept. You can see his app here, its the first one Oranges2Apples

on: How I went from writing 2,000 words a day to 10,000 words a day
When I wrote my first novel I spent a lot of time at my neighbours house using their old 486 and notepad. They didn't have internet access and the places was quiet other the cat that I was cat sitting. Needless to say, the situation turned out to be very productive and without distraction.

on: Always a starter, never a finisher.
Its good to finishes projects, but its also important to realize that some projects can't ever be finished, or may not be worth the effort of completing them. That's not to say one should drop a project when it gets hard or to think your self out of completing it, but more to the idea of being reasonable about expectations while still trying your hardest.

Living in the Valley has its benefits, but living in a car to start an alarm clock start-up... hum... yeah.

How is anyone surprised that an old company that has run out of steam is trying alternative revenue models that are designed for the benefit of old out of steam companies?

on: Why don't I see anything worthwhile happening in the startup space?
My sentiments exactly, especially when I see people like Joshua Schachter, a brilliant entrepreneur creating stack overflow clones (jig) and companies like Instagram being valued at 1/2 billion dollars.
Surly I'm jealous of their success, but I still question the 'real' value they are creating.

on: Ask HN: What do you do when someone else executes your idea?
I had a very similar idea to, been working on it for a while. We pivoted a little. t
This seems to be a very popular genera right now, maybe it has to do with how easy it is to create a photo app?

on: Show HN: my weekend(s) project, instant websites
There was an article recently about how all the low end development/design will be done without developers/designers and only high end will need people. Tools like this seem to be propagating that idea.

I'm not saying that he is a good person, just that he's not so bad as all the information that came out made him seem.

on: Kim Dotcom’s first TV interview: ‘I’m no piracy king’
Seeing all those videos that came out when he was first arrested gave the impression that he was a 'bad' person who deserved to be in jail. Hearing him speak gives a completely different impression, obviously he'd have to be smart to have the success he has, but this video goes to show he's articulate, convincing and well versed in the industry that he is a part of. Clearly the early propaganda served a purposes, but this video shows reality.

on: W3C Proposal from MS, Google, Netflix for adding copy protection API to html5
I like how I get down voted for pointing out an obvious problem with HTML5. Regardless of what world you want to live in, the world we live in is ruled by content owners.

This sort of thing has to happen, as great as the idea of media embedding in HTML5 is there needs to be copy protection.

on: Being rich will kill your startup
Having money is helpful for start-ups as it allows them to focus on a problem and solve it. The opposite side of the coin could be that when looking for solutions with lots of money their maybe less efficiency.

on: Ask HN: My Startup didn't go viral- what now?
Like others have said, I don't understand what value this adds. Second, I don't have Facebook and won't give my twitter login to an random site..... at the same time, those 'social' networks seem to be what gives this product value.
