the douchebag one is a strange one unless you're going for management :/ where do you see yourself in 5 years though seems a reasonable question; do you want to lead a team, be certified in something, gain experience in x, etc, just pick a career goal from the hat surely

reubeniv | 6 years ago | on: Questions to ask a company during a job interview

I normally ask what opportunities for growth exist, eg training/certs/online courses etc, and what they like about the company, can normally tell if they like the job/you by how enthusiastic they answer or whether it comes across as scripted

reubeniv | 6 years ago | on: NSA Official: We Need to Prepare for the Future of War

It's quite a scary one, drone swarms that outmatch humans by a huge degree might cause the losing side to surrender before a human life is lost, but they could also massacre the losing sides, satellites and communications of all sides are also likely go, then of course there's still nuclear armageddon

reubeniv | 6 years ago | on: Why Is Joe Rogan So Popular?

haha yeah he's pretty big, I first heard about him through his Jordan Peterson interviews, but he's pretty good. He's had sports nutritionists on both for and against keto etc, Alex Jones was hilarious and eye opening, so was Tom Delongue (the guy is nuts), James Damore, a number of comedians, Kevin Smith was great, and yeah he just lets them talk, you're free to form your own opinions, it's kinda refreshing and nice to fall asleep to when most youtube vids (even the talky ones) are shrinking to ~10 minutes.

seconded, it's pretty common in the UK to grab a take-out coffee too. When I worked in a bigger city it was sometimes a bit of a treat occasionally to grab one on the way to the office.

reubeniv | 7 years ago | on: An open-source collection of interview questions

You'd think that, but some legacy systems might not have it, I don't want to name and shame, but a lot of our code is on an IBM Series i (used to be called as400?) and the source control for it is basically manually adding a comment with the ticket number next to any changes - unsurprisingly they're a bit coy about the technologies used in interviews and target people fresh out of uni who don't know any better, my recruiter told me it was a Java role lol

reubeniv | 7 years ago | on: Brexit – where now? The flow diagrams

2/3 majority wouldn't have made a difference, the referendum wasn't on leaving, it was on staying, the option supporting the motion on the ballot got less than half the votes so it was agreed by parliament we should leave, which seems reasonable and it's shocking govt made such a mess of it.

reubeniv | 7 years ago | on: EU and Japan create world's biggest free trade zone

That's not strictly true, I know a few countries have agreed to roll over the deals the have with the EU over to the UK, not all have been signed and (not a great comfort) the only ones I know of that have (so far) are Isreal and (I think?) Australia

reubeniv | 7 years ago | on: Parmigiano-Reggiano: Italy's 'practically perfect' food

does the PDO actually guarantee quality? It guarantees it's made in a particular region, and the case for it is that certain ingredients are only available in that region but, for example, I often buy own-brand 'Italian-style hard cheese', which is effectively the same, it's just made outside of Italy so can't share the name.

Call me cynical, DPOs seem abused and more about protecting regional industries as apposed to guaranteeing quality for consumers.
