on: Twitter announces IPO: The Valuation
Notwithstanding, the valuation and its assumptions refers to, from what I understand, how a minority stock investor, such as ourselves - individuals, may value the stock for its IPO.
If you or I buy a few shares of stock we'll likely not have any "synergies" to speak of so the actual earnings power of the company is important

on: Why are there so many successful Swedish gaming companies?
They should have mentioned Starbreeze which seems to have found gold with its Payday 2. But from what I understand it is not Starbreeze that will make the new Riddick game, but another Swedish developer Machine Games (which was founded by a bunch of old Starbreeze staff after the Syndicate flop)

Any investments made that are meant as long-term (i.e. >1year) is capitalized on the balance sheet and is a use of cash in the cash flow statement.
Any short-term operating costs related to those investments are likely to be expensed during the period in question and thus be recognized in the income statement.
Opex may also be higher (and consequently lower profit) while heavy investments are made because the company hires a lot of more staff which do not start generate any revenue until a later period.

on: How the Apple TV will work
Also B&O's newest TV, the Beovision 11 (a real beauty -
http://www.bang-olufsen.com/en/picture/beovision-11) has a compartment for an ATV (or other similarly designed thingy) in the TV. B&O also has the capability of controlling the ATV with the their remote even though it is hidden in the TV. Pretty cool actually

I actually hadn't thought of the rumored new iPhone 5 design as a possibility of it being the next iPod Touch. Maybe that's why we haven't heard any iPod Touch rumors yet?

on: Groupon’s Strikeouts Reveal an Unspoken Truth
While I agree that there are many companies that do strip out stock-based compensation charges, in my opinion their reasoning, as you put it: "accounting mumbo-jumbo" charges" I do not agree with. Share-based compensation is very much a real cost for investors.
Also, when companies do these adjustments, they should carry it consistently throughputs its full extent, i.e. by estimating the dilution

It should also be considered that the underwriters gets paid on the amount raised (7% according to the article), so the underwriters also "lost" money from that perspective.

Actually, when buying back stock you're essentially reducing the number of shares outstanding, which, all else equal, would translate into a higher stock price.
