yeah same here. I canceled my account on name.com because I had previously obtained a .art domain maybe for ~15-20 USD / yr. Then they wanted $50 USD a year to extend it. No thanks, dropped the domain and moved to namecheap

I thought we were all working on revolutionary AI insights... Right? There's more?

joking aside, I'm working on a mobile app side project for a client that involves camera vision/machine learning in a heavy trucking maintenance context. Very low-ego, blue collar stuff, with a blend of modern tech. That and game dev in Godot engine has brought back my passion for coding greatly that I had lost over the last several years.

ryan42 | 8 months ago | on: Tell HN: I Lost Joy of Programming

I actually brought back some of the joy of programming for myself by leveraging LLMS

Context. I'm burnt out, doing web software development for business apps for 15 years now and going

I started to get into game development. I started to test out chatGPT and claude to assist and it's been going great. I make so much progress and the results are fun which makes the coding process fun. The LLM covers gaps in my knowledge of math and physics and game dev strategy and architecture. But since I know how to code I can take what it gives and accomplish all kinds of things that would be much more difficult going on my own.

Great stuff, I love the detailed explanations. I'm getting more into making my own games in Godot, and may try to implement this with it!

Also, Realm of the mad god is a great game!

ryan42 | 11 months ago | on: Stoop Coffee: A simple idea transformed my neighborhood

This is cool, it reminds me of some events in my home state.

One is called Porch fest, and it is city-wide event: https://www.carmelporchfest.org/faq

Another is a community event in South Bend, IN where people collectively organized a big art/music event in backyards, that spread and covered a fairly large area. I think it was originally back yards, then someone with a large wooded property moved the event there, as it grew too large? https://www.instagram.com/yart_southbend

Also reminded of porch hangouts that happened by necessity during covid to allow socializing while masked/outdoors to reduce risk of larger groups of people gathering indoors.

I've been using mmm.page to manage a tiny landing page for awhile, I really like its flexibility and ease of use.

It is something I would definitely look into paying for in the future if the site needs to grow into something bigger, or for other projects I want to do.

ryan42 | 8 years ago | on: The Antique Cannabis Book

If samples were around and we measured them, I would guess it would have a lower amount of both CBD and THC compared to today's 'standards'. There are no standards with cannabis though. It's one name for a multitude of species and strains which are aggressively bred and hybridized with many family trees. Now with our modern understanding of the plant, CBD high and THC low species, and THC high and CBD low (more prominent) are bred, along with everything in between.

I love this book so much that I bought the paperback edition. Practicing and following its advice has helped me improve my general mood and outlook over the past year.

The past year being one of the most difficult of my life. For me, I see direct evidence of the techniques personally in that it has been reducing the impact anxiety has on me when it occurs.

Its also been improving my ability to: 1) be 'present' and not have anxiety come up as often to begin with, 2) quickly address/resolve the anxiety when it does occur, using the techniques

ryan42 | 9 years ago | on: A Brief History of Who Ruined Burning Man

I've never been to BM, but I think there are many art/music festivals which you could go to that are more accessible and very similar themes and things happening burning man has, but on a smaller scale. I just attended my first "art/music" focused festival a few weeks ago. It had meditation/yoga/various educational workshops, artists displaying all different kinds of wares for sale, people trading and giving small things freely (think shared water, wristbands, food, trinket). There was a rock that had a sign, purposed to "give something, take something". The downsides were there too. Lots of people just there for the music/drugs/party aspect or whatever. There are probably 100's of alternatives to burning man - regional burns and music/art festivals, that are much more accessible to get to and experience. Most are 2-3 days long, and that is more like prepping for a regular camping trip than something the scale of burning man.

ryan42 | 9 years ago | on: The mystery of the 'legal name fraud' billboards

I did computer repair a long time ago for a friend of the family. He was all into believing this stuff and I was forced to listen to it for about an hour or so. Pretty weird stuff. He thought he could use the concept to get out of debts and speeding tickets, etc.
