on: Amazon scooped up data from its own sellers to launch competing products
Sellers use Amazon FBA (Fulfilled By Amazon). Their inventory sits with Amazon and irrespective of platform where transaction happened, Amazon ships it in their own box.

on: EBay to Ditch PayPal for Dutch Payment Processor Adyen
I think the term eBay is using is intermediated payments. I think as a buyer, you would pay to eBay and eBay would pay to seller. So should be frictionless.

on: EBay to Ditch PayPal for Dutch Payment Processor Adyen
Since Uber and Netflix are using Ayden in the background I am guessing they can handle global payments. Most of us never knew what payment provider did these companies use so far.

on: How to C in 2016
I learned and used C at school. It appreciate what I learned but using it in the right way, using the latest functionality available, considering machine portability along with safe coding guidelines of code would have been better.

on: Show HN: Coderust 2.0 – Visual Guide for Programming Interview Preparation
The interview startup space has become very interesting. Educative.io is bringing a new approach to prepare for interviews or any topic for that matter. The visual aid and easy navigation does the trick for me.
Kudos to the team!

on: The Counterintuitive Tech Behind Netflix’s Worldwide Launch
This is really an interesting read. It covers the 3 major issues (at least in India) directly or indirectly - less usage of credit card, the internet infrastructure issues and the fair usage policy. All three of them are really hard problems as they cost a lot of money to scale. YouTube started facing similar issues in regards to infrastructure and fair usage policy long time ago. The credit card issue cannot be solved soon but if Netflix starts accepting Debit cards or partners with PayTm and other payment systems, it will be better. The internet infrastructure is lacking both in terms of speed as well as outreach. This problem will definitely take a lot of time to be fixed. Facebook, Flipkart and others are trying new ways to reach more people with Free Basics, Airtel Zero, etc. The tricky one is fair usage policy. If the service providers are to be Net Neutral, then increasing the data cap for fair usage policy or removing it altogether would be hard for them.

on: Show HN: A high-tech floating Christmas tree with more than 2000 RGB LED's
This is definitely an interesting project. I liked the video projection and extending battery life to 2 days. Kudos to the team :)
However, could you have a clean power source? I mean there was water, wind and the barge was floating. Is there a way you could have recharged the batteries without the generator? I know the power requirements was high but just wondering. Small wind turbines may be (assuming cost was not an issue)?

on: India to make CBSE textbooks available online for free
Making books and other materials available online is a first step but am concerned about the quality of the content. Many times the books were not clear about the point they are trying to make, the experiment how its performed, etc. They often added some content, especially towards the end of the chapter, which was just a paragraph or so and did not explain what it is. Other thing is that students don't get to know about the practical applications. Consider calculus or binomial theorem, most of the students as well as teachers don't know about its applications. Unfortunately, if your teacher isn't that good, you would not understand and appreciate the subject. Given that internet is still not widely available, the students cannot search for additional material or get their questions answered.

Here is the wiki definition -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gross_merchandise_volumeeBay and many other marketplaces use it. My guess is that since these marketplace platforms are not actual retailers their GMV is pretty high as compared to revenue. To showcase the dollar value of total sales that happened on the platform they use GMV. But again I am not an expert in this field.

on: LinkedIn Q1 Beats on Sales of $638M, Shares Fall 25% on Weak Outlook
No they earned more than expectation which was good. But because in the second quarter they have lower revenue expectation. The shareholders don't like this given their history and that's why the share is down by 25%

on: If a Caller Says, 'I Am with the IRS,' He's Not
Recently my friend from work got a similar call which asked him to transfer $5000 immediately or else he will get arrested for improper tax filing/tax evasiongoo within 30 minutes!!! Being new to the US, he was scared and started panicking. But people calmed him down and told him to ignore it. He might have transferred the amount if he had no one to consult that day.

A nice attempt. But I am not satisfied with the UI! Why to drag the picture when you can just click it and get the next release date. Basically, you are taking two steps to do a thing which can be done in one step, may be just to make the UI pretty. Plus some details are incorrect (like no new episode for the Big Bang Theory) but these are your content source issue. Apart from that it is good!
