Even though Lunascript the reactive web language has been scrapped, Luna the reactive web Javascript framework is still plenty interesting. Building a web framework is much more reasonable for a prelaunch startup.

However, that's from a quora post written almost a year ago. We'll have to wait and see.

Presumably, the kind of person who would start their own HFT company is earning more than 85K/year out of college. Close to double that if they're a trader at a bank, potentially more if they're at a smaller firm and do well.

Still, 200K after two years of work is a tall order after taxes and living expenses. But given four or five years, it's not that surprising.

I don't know anything about the High Rise tower except the wikipedia summary, but it doesn't seem similar to the Tower of David at all, except for the two skyscrapers lacking working elevators.

The Tower of David inhabitants manage the lack of social structure and services through self-organization and integration with the outside economy. The High Rise tower seems to be Lord of the Flies except with overindulgence and social alienation as the triggering causes.

The Tower of David as shown in the article, despite everything terrible it reveals about Venezuela's government and economy, is a story about people creating a functioning society from nothing.

You might take another look at the second half of the article, as it directly addresses the "perceived...tradeoff between equity and economic growth", and why income inequality is relevant.

I personally wouldn't go to an op-ed column for analysis on this kind of issue, but Kristof certainly addressed the matter.
