on: CrowdStrike Update: Windows Bluescreen and Boot Loops
The thing that amazes me is how they've rolled out such a buggy change at such a scale. I would assume that for such critical systems, there would be a gradual rollout policy, so that not everything goes down at once.

HN should take down this post. The country has been heavily polarized into two sections (pro-bjp and against-bjp) with both the sections heavily incentivised by the "IT" deptt of respective political parties.
Very few will talk about the actual issue and most of the comments will be rhetorical, only focusing on what they believe is right.

on: The Software Engineering Rule of 3
The problem with this approach is, if there are 10 such different cases, which can be made a one-liner, the dev would instead make those 10 cases to 20, while waiting for 3rd to come in either of them. Instead of being afraid of future, do some abstraction. If a 3rd case is massively different, then based on the timeline either modify the abstraction, or create a new-functionality.

So? What's wrong with this? Why would someone check-in all the 3rd party code, when same can be described in package.json & downloaded again.

on: What is the best part about being a Software Engineer?
Wrt to the title, I would like to add here that:
We can fix bugs, even after something is finished!
Same cannot be said for other professions like Civil Engineering, Doctors etc.

Are you kidding me? If you're a full-stack developer, then try opening Android Studio & PyCharm IDE at the same time, and after approx. 1 hour, things just get horrible. Everything is stuck.
I don't know exactly what is happening, but somewhere the Swap handling horrible wrong.
No such issues on Mac OS/Windows :/

This link won't open up in Safari 7.0.3. Every time I try, CPU shoots up to 100% and nothing happens. Works fine in FF though.

Did u use a IM Client like IMO by any chance? Because with IMO, even if u remove it (while ur status was online from IMO client), u r still signed into Facebuk. I eventually had to download it again, sign-in, changed my status to offline. And since then, I haven't faced any issue.

That means u r signed in from some other place, like your Smartphone, or some IM client like Trillian etc, or u have Facebook Messenger installed on ur phone, due to which u r always online when u sign-in.
