I agree. Particularly with the first point. One of VSCode's big strengths is it runs on the web as well - it's easy to see it becoming a fully integrated cloud IDE (whether you run it in Electron or your browser), and then MS can sell VSCode Premium for $2/mo to integrate it with your corporate login etc.

This is starting to happen to YouTube ads. Anyone with money just pays for the monthly subscription and sees no ads.

Yeah or Google. They stopped Google Code (or whatever it was) to move it all to GitHub; I just assumed they'd then buy GitHub. Felt like a much more natural home for it.

Maybe Gitlab?

You're missing that the product makes no money. Thinking in terms of killing off competition is pointless when you're not referring to the strategy.

Sure, but Microsoft also has Visual Studio. If they start heavily investing in VSCode for C#, C++, then they're going to be cannibalising Visual Studio. And for what?

sidsidev | 5 years ago | on: Show HN: Sidsi, a Q&A app. Feedback v welcome!

First ever HN submission, with first ever Firebase app, first ever Material UI app. Good luck me!

I want to make something that facilitated healthy communication, focusing on Q&A. Sidsi has questions, voting, and anonymous participation (you need to log in if you want to make a Q&A session, but that's it), so a company employee could ask honest questions without fear of being tracked down.

I'd love all feedback - technical, UI, feature, anything. Please be aware that I have access to the database and could in theory see what questions you write. I will not share it, but just to let you know.

Possible next steps I've thought about are:

- General UI polish

- Different voting rules on questions, e.g. force ranking

- Being able to set a room from the start as fully anonymous or not

- Adding in company SSO (while maintaining anonymous question asking)

- Export questions to email/PDF

- Erase Q&A sessions for privacy

Let me know if you use it and find it useful!
