skippybosco | 16 years ago | on: Ask HN: Where are the decent elearning platforms?

@Terrence_B: Good to see that you've stumbled across eFront. Not sure what version you looked at, but be sure to check out the 3.6 version being released at the end of January (beta available on the eFront website).. pretty radical change to the theme engine, tighter integration options, etc.

There has been support for add-on modules for a while now, but for the hackers, the 3.7 release later this year is a fairly big architecture change and opens up the entire platform similar to how Wordpress manages their plugins in terms of hooking, etc.

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do what I can to assist.

skippybosco | 18 years ago | on: Should asking puzzle questions in technical interviews be illegal?

From my perspective it is less about the actual answer and more about the process you use to get there.

Now granted I have read a few studies indicating that it is possible to derive puzzles in such a way that to weed out certain demographics. One could argue the same thing based on what college someone went to and when based on the published numbers from that school and logical analysis. Should asking what college you went to and when be illegal?

As it stands right now, "puzzle solving ineptness" is not one of the groups of people protected by the equal opportunity act.

skippybosco | 18 years ago | on: Is anyone making something women want?

So what you are saying is that you are having a hard time understanding women's needs? ;-)

Since you asked, our company is in stealth mode on a product geared specifically for women (not a shopping, dating/rating, community or gossip site).. each demographic has their special needs, we're attempting to address those needs..

I do agree that a web app should be built for anyone. We are building in flexibility, for example, for the significant other of a female to gain value from the app as well..

I was also born and raised in STL.. left 5 years ago for the west coast, moved to Asia at the beginning of 2007.

Palish, I'll be in STL 9/13 - 9/19 for business meet ups. If you have availability I'd love to buy you a drink and hear about what you have going there. Curious as to how the startup scene in STL is evolving.. -frank{&at&}actercompany.com.
