This argument seems tautological.

- If he's charging for the service now then he'll clearly do anything to maximize profits.

- If the service remains free then he clearly needs to sell granular user data to stay above water.

Perhaps I'm missing the point you're trying to make but I don't think you can conclude anything from this.

That reason might be a nice scapegoat that they invented after criticism because it's mentioned nowhere in their official announcement.

>There are three big reasons why we’re removing SMS support for the Android app now: prioritizing security and privacy, ensuring people aren’t hit with unexpected messaging bills, and creating a clear and intelligible user experience for anyone sending messages on Signal.

So I think this "myth" will probably persist for a while.

It doesn't sound like either of those reverts are necessarily for malicious patches. They are reverting all commits from umn.edu addresses regardless of their involvement with this professor.

I'll admit that if the GP holds the opinion that all ad blockers are "scummy" then I wouldn't be bothered. But considering I never see ublock origin get criticism here I have to assume that when most people criticize Brave's business model, they don't actually care about the publishers.

I've also been scammed with Ebay + PayPal. Now that I know how useless PayPal is I will never use them again. Never had any issues (or heard of people having issues) with requesting a chargeback with Citi or Chase.

Calling somebody sheltered is objectively a personal attack on this forum.

Rather than personal attacks you should take the time to actually respond to their comment if you feel so strongly against it.

> It’s worth noting that the first thing Parler did was start censoring anyone unsupportive of their form of conservatism.

Thanks for the link but nothing in that article supports this comment. The only mention of content not allowed is:

1. Matze's post about spam, NSFW content, and death threats not being allowed (https://www.cato.org/sites/cato.org/files/styles/pubs/public...)

and

2. Matze's post about banning the accounts of a group of ANTIFA supporters (https://imgur.com/WaAMEyn). This image was linked without any context (perhaps because Matze posted this without any context) so we don't know why these accounts were banned.
