starnix17 | 15 years ago | on: Android Market's most popular emulators disappear without a trace

"e.g. making a TI-89 emulator should be ok for the market, but you can't include TI's ROM"

I don't think so. For example, I know the PSX emulator didn't include any of the required BIOS files and they are all still removed.

It seems that if someone big enough complains, Google will remove any emulator.

starnix17 | 15 years ago | on: Venmo Review

One of the (few?) best startups in Philly, very nice founders and employees.

starnix17 | 15 years ago | on: IOS RAGE rendered with WebGL

Kudos to John Carmack for being kind enough to help the developer get the demo working.

He seems like a nice guy and it's cool that he's still very much involved with game development (and apparently rockets).

starnix17 | 15 years ago | on: Ask HN: Looking for feedback on my rate (iOS/Android)

Thanks for the feedback.

More details:

Venmo: handled everything but design (but worked alongside their designer)

Wolfgang's Vault: handled everything for the app, based design off of existing iOS app

BSG Bobble: ported from iOS (also agree with it being pointless, fun project though)

Philly Concert Hub: everything (even the web app that gets listings, http://phillyconcerthub.com)

None of these were overly difficult, nearly everything is just a native client that connects to some web API.

I can't recall the hours for each, sorry.

Strengths: I think I can build a decent product even though I'm not a designer Good understanding of both iOS and Android

Weaknesses: I wish I did more testing

starnix17 | 15 years ago | on: Reddit Is Down To One Developer

What happens when the last one leaves?

Is Conde just going to run off to Elance or something?

I can't even find a jobs page on Reddit.

At least it's open source.

starnix17 | 15 years ago | on: Instapaper 3.0 is here

If you search for Instapaper and re-download you'll get 3.0.

It seems that the updates section has a little bit of a delay.

starnix17 | 15 years ago | on: Xcode 4 released

It's great software, and definitely worth $5, but one thing concerns me.

Most open source software I use requires Xcode to be installed in order to use GCC and other build tools.

Does this mean you'll have to purchase Xcode 4 in order to (easily) install these tools from now on?

starnix17 | 15 years ago | on: Google Forecloses on Content Farms with "Farmer" Algorithm Update

I don't know if it's live yet, but my concert listings site is now number one for a lot of common searches (philly concerts, philadelphia concerts).

It used to be like 2 or 3 pages down below a bunch of content farms, very glad about this.

Edit: Actually, now I'm number 4 for philadelphia and number 1 for Philly, still pretty happy though.

starnix17 | 15 years ago | on: Android - SMS are intermittently sent to wrong and seemingly random contact

I'm sure they'll be fast to fix this, but how fast will phone manufactures be to push this out?

This is definitely a real bug, a few weeks ago a text intended for my girlfriend went to my mom. After you send a text and it goes through the phone changes the name to some random other contact and there's nothing you can do about it.
