Let me make sure I understand your logic:

If you had a girlfriend/boyfriend who drank gasoline and ate glass and small, powerful magnets every day, you would not lift a finger or speak a word attempting to stop them? Because they are "not a dog, feeding themselves"?

Might I suggest you have a critical lack of empathy if you lack the desire to help people?

I can't believe how long I laughed at this comment. I literally rolled around laughing uncontrollably on the floor at this comment. All my coworkers are staring at me funny now. This is one of the most amazing comments I've ever seen on HN. Well played good sir, bravo.

> We shouldn't really take the shortcut of comparing our wealth to the wealth of others. Aren't shortcuts in dealing with people a problem?

That's a great perspective I hadn't considered before. You are right, taking shortcuts like that only invites prejudice and misunderstanding.

I don't understand why we're supposed to feel bad for someone like this?

Like, sure he has a felony on his record, but he is enormously wealthy and a successful businessman who will continue to acquire more and more money in the future.

This guy is already far wealthier than most people will ever be, even with the felony on his record.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I don't think rich people deserve sympathy the same way normal people do.

Ever since the idea of a modular phone was first introduced "Phonebloks, or whatever it was" I have known for a fact that it was a fundamentally flawed concept and would never see the light of day, despite the enormous hype and support it received.

Is this proof that I am more intelligent than everyone who believed in this idea? I think so?

Those are some very elaborate strawmen you are constructing there. Is that what you're referring to?

How come whenever someone, like me, reveals a factual, truthful, and well-argued opinion, they are criticized by people like you?

Do you see what I'm getting at here?

stevenwiles | 9 years ago | on: You Don’t Deserve a House in the Bay Area

What a self-absorbed person you are.

You bought a house in the Bay Area right out of college, allenc. You have ABSOLUTELY no right to be telling anyone what they do and do not deserve.

You have lived a very easy life full of many luxuries, moreso than 99% of human beings will ever experience, and you still have a NIMBY attitude and feel genuinely entitled regarding your home ownership.

You are the problem, allenc.

EDIT: Is there a way to report HN users? This guy does nothing on this website except post links on his blog. Is it not against HN rules to attempt to extract profits out of the community?

What are you contributing to the community, allenc, that you feel entitled to ad revenue from HN users?

So you're saying you feel bad for the person who chose to lie in exchange for millions and millions of dollars?

By any chance, are you yourself rich? I can see how that would make it easier to sympathize with someone like Sean Murray. If not, then why would you feel bad for someone who got paid millions and millions of dollars for lying for years? Isn't having a lot of money a good thing?

stevenwiles | 9 years ago | on: Why Nearly Every Film Ends by Saying It’s Fiction

There you go, oldmanjay, very good.

When you encounter an opinion you don't agree with, the first thing you try to do is discredit the person speaking that opinion. That is EXACTLY the correct, adult way to handle things.

The best part about your method is that it's impossible for you to be wrong! If someone ever says something you don't agree with, all you need to do is find out how you are smarter than that person, and then use that as evidence for why their opinion can't possibly be true.

You, good sir, are a role model.
