This is a good explanation.

It's probably worth pointing out that basing custom prices upon a buyer's perceived value of the item rather than the item's cost of production will usually generate higher levels of profit.

I'm an economist who helps companies increase their profits via strategic pricing.

I can:

* 1. Analyze your value propositions to ensure they resonate with customers

* 2. Recommend changes to your offerings to improve your bottom line

* 3. Show you how to nudge customers toward more profitable offerings

The best approach will depend upon your goals, market, and the nature of your product. There is no "one size fits all" in pricing.

I would try to come up with a project that you can focus upon. Whether it's writing a book or learning to sail, you'll be less likely to feel untethered. Also, you'll be able to look back and appreciate the time you had off.

taprun | 7 years ago | on: Ask HN: How do some people build their careers so fast?

One surefire way I've seen is to work at a company in which your bosses keep quitting. I've seen people jump from IC to VP over the course of a handful of years.

Another is to start a startup and then get acquihired into a large company.

taprun | 7 years ago | on: Ask HN: Does the world need another RSS aggregator?

The world doesn't need another RSS aggregator. The world might need another RSS aggregator that is fundamentally different than the others. For instance, one that gives me an alert if one of my selected keywords appears in one of my feeds or one that uses AI to predict which of the unread articles is most likely to be of interest to me, and makes a list of them.

taprun | 7 years ago | on: Ask HN: Frequent job hopper? How do you build a good reputation?

1. Pick a very narrow topic that will let you get mastery quickly but is impressive to potential coworkers

2. Do it in public (start by speaking about it at meetups and lightning talks)

3. Use the people you impress to help you get jobs (rather than going through HR)
