I had wondered if Apple had removed them simply because the apps were of such low quality. This would explain why Playboy, Sport Illustrated etc are still present.

The cheap 'boobs/babes/bikini' apps constantly filled many slots in the top app lists, yet most seemed to be simply a collection of images and as such, their ratings were very, very low. They seemed to have no real content that wasn't freely available on the web.

Looking at the ones that were high in the top free app lists, they were simply 6-8 images of women in bikinis with ads attached.

we're removing (or building out) any page in our system created by our users with under 200 words of original content. This will take a couple of weeks but it's tarted.

or

i'm also getting a list of every page under 300 words and having the page managers build them out in 30 days or deleting them.

is it under 200 words or under 300? are the goal posts moving already?

tdm911 | 16 years ago | on: Anonymous hacks Australian Government in response to Internet censorship

the issue i have is that the government will tell the uniformed voting public that 'we', (those who protest these moves), are trying to harm the government through these hacking attempts.

to mrs and mrs family voter, this makes those who protest look bad and can sway their opinions on the censorship.

tdm911 | 16 years ago | on: Anonymous hacks Australian Government in response to Internet censorship

whilst i agree with their protesting of our governments unnecessary proposals on censoring australia, their methods are not helping.

a ddos attack on the government only gives the government more ammunition to paint the average protester as a criminal or someone who is trying to harm the government. a peaceful protest is far more effective.

tdm911 | 16 years ago | on: Why Do I Need Facebook When I Have Twitter

that's interesting that you don't see spam on twitter. i stopped having follower emails sent to me, because so many new followers were spam.

the @reply spam is unavoidable, but rare enough that it's just mildly annoying, not a serious issue for me.

i've mostly seen similar, though they tend to block webmail and social networking sites. data leakage through people sending out confidential documents via webmail is a real concern for big business.

Thanks, well spotted.

I wonder how this is achieved? Perhaps there is an eBay account username and password that goes with the sale.

I believe it's just the text formatting gone awry. They are:

ask hn (ask hacker news) and ask yc (ask Y Combinator).

ask yc was obviously more popular in the early days.

tdm911 | 16 years ago | on: Ask HN: Why doesn't nasa.gov get its url to work?

Although a smaller scale, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology has the same problem. bom.gov.au doesn't resolve to anything.

For what it's worth, Firefox will change nasa.gov to www.nasa.gov.au but won't do the same for bom.gov.au. Internet Explorer won't do this at all.

tdm911 | 16 years ago | on: The risks of "$15 for $2097 worth of mobile internet"

This reminds of me how Three Mobile in Australia drops back to Telstra when roaming. This is by default and the user is none the wiser (unless they had the knowledge to turn off roaming).

I think every person I know who has a Three phone used an amount of data in their first month whilst roaming and had a $100+ excess usage charge (often much higher).

I'm sure it's all spelled out to them upon purchasing, but it's not clear and your average user has no idea what roaming is.

tdm911 | 16 years ago | on: Why the HTML5 ‘Video’ Element Is Effectively Unusable

It's not the video and audio aspects of flash he is concerned about, it's the automatic loading and playing of content with flash that is annoying. Audio and video that doesn't load until you ask for it is perfectly acceptable.
