>So Israel’s military operation is contemporaneous with a threat, and does at least serve some degree of self-defense purpose

There really is no self-defense purpose in my mind to what Israel is doing. It's more self-avenging as others mentioned.

You can argue it's a preventative operation to prevent future attack by taking out Hamas, but the approach they're taking does not indicate that since it's completely counter-productive and Israel must know that. When you level entire neighborhoods, and kill thousands of women and children, and make hundreds of thousands of them homeless, do you really expect those people to start liking Israel now? If killing is the solution to this conflict, it would have been solved a long time ago.

If I lost a loved one at the hands of Israel in such malicious and careless manner, I'm never going to not consider Israel as nothing but an enemy.

I have always thought that the US should lock less people and start handing less harsh sentences, but having lived in the bay area for almost 6 months, I came to the conclusion that the US should lock up even more people.

I understand that prisons don't necessarily fix the crime problem, but the thing we probably all agree on is that fixing crime is not something trivial at all, and until we know the exact causes of crime, and start to tackle them one by one, we need to do something immediate about crime because life here is frankly unbearable. Random shootings, shoplifting, assault, hate crimes, and muggings are all too common here.

I'm unable to even think about starting a family in this environment.

My personal opinion is that I'm not at all surprised by this. The Chinese government is a one-party rule that controls all aspects of life. Criticize the government or the party there and you're gone. They would be foolish, with the things they're known to do, to not take advantage of such big opportunity to spy on many countries. I think it's very reasonable for western democracies to be careful before embedding Chinese (or any other authoritarian country) high tech in their infrastructure.

I think both Robinhood and M1 Finance collect interest on their customers' cash and securities. Robinhood also makes money by offering margin to its customers and I believe M1 Finance has a similar but more general offering called M1 Borrow where the money borrowed can be used anywhere instead of just trading.
