I think it’s unlikely a game that high profile would be the target of a betting scheme. Much more likely some everyday regular season games, or even specific portion of a game are manipulated. You can bet on things that are way more in your control to win if you have that kind of influence such as a single players performance over a game, one quarter/inning, one hole of golf, etc

I've been deep in the k8s on raspberry pi's world recently and ran across someone who was doing this with Bitwarden for their personal setup. I use 1password as my password manager of choice and was immediately trying to find ways to do something similar using the 1password CLI, so this is very convenient timing.

Same, I'm rid of Google except for Youtube. There are just too many creators I follow there that I really enjoy to give it up. A few upload their videos to Patreon (usually for early access) and I think if I ever manage to ditch Youtube that is how it's going to happen.

Unfortunate side effect of their success. Most bigger servers I'm on require having a verified account otherwise all you can see is a single message asking you to verify.

I envy you greatly. When these were put on sale a freak snowstorm happened to hit the northeast and me and everyone else around had no power for close to a week. I was after one of the more populated servers (Kil'jaeden) and my phones battery just didn't last long enough to get that final bid in. I still regret not just putting in a higher bid earlier that day.

That's a fair point. I'm speaking more as a judge/jury view on the situation though. I don't think Linode users should panic and run for the hills just yet based off this alone.

The chatlog does provide some evidence that it is indeed the hacker, but does little to convince me that he got CC info and Linode is not telling us the whole truth. The evidence he provides is just simple source code snips and the directory listing, which would be expected based on what Linode has told us.

This could very well be the hackers own submission to /. trying to get more attention for his hack by claiming he has CC numbers which I doubt he has.

I can give you my personal path I took when learning a few years ago if you don't mind starting with rails.

Start with Michael Hartl's Rails Tutorial [1]. I went through the rails 3 version with zero knowledge of ruby and you should feel very comfortable with the basics when you are done.

After that I read The Well-Grounded Rubyist [2]. Having used some ruby now I found the book easy to get into. It's a little dated but should still cover everything you need at this point.

Lastly I read Eloquent Ruby [3]. I highly recommend this book and is easily my favorite programing book.

Diablo 3 isn't a single player game with an online component, it is an online game you can choose to play solo.

I agree with this choice, especially with games like Diablo. Yes there are that subset of players who will only play through the campaign alone and never touch it again but the majority are going to play on battlenet and there would be no reason to even play offline.

As of right now the $15 option has 0 backers. There is really no benefit to donate below $30 right now. I don't see why giving everyone beta access would be an issue. It gives some value to the lower tiers. Invite priority could still be from greatest to least but that last tier would see something eventually.

Being able to only pay the difference when buying a licence is another option.

thehermit | 14 years ago | on: Blizzard Lays Off 600, Including About 60 Developers

This doesn't seem that surprising to me. Blizzard took on millions of new customers fast, so they went on a hiring spree for support staff. 5+ years ago it was not unusual to take 2-3 days and even over a week to get an issue resolved. Now even more than 12 hours is a busy day. I'm sure they have streamlined their support systems behind the scenes and just don't require as many employees, even if they kept their peek subscriber levels.
