on: Tell HN: Apple would not approve how invasive Apple Music is were it 3rd-party
If you know what you want to listen to it’s great.
Recommendations are better on Spotify in my opinion, but still better than on Tidal or other streaming services.
For me Apple Music also wins, because there is no other streaming service providing lossless audio at that price.

I don’t really understand the point you’re trying to make.
You absolutely can use the music app without paying for the subscription by syncing your own media.
As others have proven, the previews can even be listened to without creating an account.
What exactly is so invasive about Apple Music?

I am a macOS user and have never seen a popup or ads for News+, fitness+ or Apple Music.
In addition to that, what personal data are you talking about in your last paragraph?

For almost every separate IDE there is a plug-in for IntelliJ that gives it the same functionality.

Have you used an iPad with ProMotion and one without? Seriously try it, you can’t tell me that there’s no perceivable difference between the two when scrolling through something or writing with a pen.

on: Silenced AirTags with disabled speakers are popping up for sale online
Without improving it?
The findmy-network is the improvement that makes these devices actually worth something, compared to the small number of devices in the tile network.
How is this a privacy/security nightmare, when you literally get audible notifications and notifications on your phone when you are being tracked.
And how do you come up with these random price estimates, AirTags are available for under 40 and not for 80 usd.
My god you’re full of yourself.

on: M1 Mac Mini has dropped my electricity bill by almost 50%
Of course this isn’t particularly fair, as the RTX is far superior to the M1 integrated graphics, but real-world performance of the M1 is actually comparable to the Core i9 while only consuming a fraction of the power.

Apple has done so with FaceTime now. This feature will come in iOS 15 and MacOS Monterey.

No it wouldn’t, because cost would probably exceed revenue in that case.

No. Ryzen Laptops do consume a lot more power than the 15w the m1 consumes under load.

Imagine using Windows Explorer...
Right Click -> New Folder
Choosing the files you want to move there -> CTRL+C -> Going into the directory -> CTRL+V
Yeah that’s just the best and most efficient way to move files into a new directory.
For me Apple Music also wins, because there is no other streaming service providing lossless audio at that price.
