Using gun deaths in the united states as against global terrorism is a flawed comparison. The US has more gun deaths than the united kingdom but it also has more guns and more people. When you expand the scope of terrorism related deaths to the entire world of course it is low, nobody in iceland has to worry about being bombed but someone in brussles, turkey, iraq or syria might disagree.

I will take accidental gun deaths in the US over terrorism any day. I invite anyone on HN to go stand in northern iraq and I will stand at a shooting range all day.

It is all about control. If you remove the independence of cash and you end up with government regulation deciding how much, what and where you spend your money. Such regulation can be used to put stress on businesses that the state deems 'unsuitable'[1] as well as punish those with differing opinions than the state[2].

Cashless society would essentially turn the world into one giant PayPal.

Oh boy another "I worked so hard because im a woman in tech" post. Everyone in tech works hard regardless of gender but some people choose to brag less than others.

Everything will cost way more than expected.

The VC "culture" (and I use that term very loosely) is going to pop when investors get tired of disruptive washing machine sharing apps and that entire area is just going to be an expensive wasteland. If you have a job currently avoid the bay area like the plague it is. Any major "tech town" is going to have similar issues but SF is the nexus of the problem

> but who in the world needs an assault rifle?

Ignoring the "assault rifle" part of this. Semi-automatic carbines are great fun to shoot, they have a lower recoil impulse than traditional larger rifles and military surplus ammunition and parts generally creates a cheap and easy way to enjoy firearms. You can get an AR-15 for $600 or so and spend an afternoon enjoying it without a hurt shoulder or a bloody nose.
