Yup. The second “mystery” object is definitely a speaker. As for the mini Mac Pro… my guess is it’s a scale model for that particular design refresh.

I administer a very very large tape library on a daily basis, with roughly 30pb of video in our backups. LTO tape is just simply more economical when you're at that amount of data. We looked into replacing it with object storage but the cost was more than double than it was to buy a LTO-9 tape library and a fast spinning disk storage pool for nearline archives than it was to go with the object storage solution.

For what it's worth, NYC has been designating some parking spots on city blocks in largely residential areas for local deliveries, so UPS/Amazon/FedEx trucks don't have to double park and hold up traffic. I'm sure it was due to the pandemic, where online ordering became a lifeline for many.

Parsec performance is impressive. I've had good luck with Splashtop, though I've experienced some lagging at times.

There's also Teradici (HP bought them a few months ago) but that can get pretty costly.

Baystate Blue also seems to be a cursed ink. It's not a matter of if you drop that bottle, but a matter of when.

I vaguely remember that at one point the NYT provided a way to just simply cancel your account through a link on the NYT account portal -- no need to chat with a specialist. Though, it could have been another paper subscription that allowed for that, I don't remember fully, it was probably 4 years ago at this point.

Anyway, I cancelled my NYT subscription a few months ago and received no push back from the specialist. While this tactic might be something that's expected from management, I don't think everyone is willing to do it... or maybe the specialist I chatted with met their retainment quotas for the month (if that's a thing.).
