toxiczone | 12 years ago | on: Ask HN: What do you do when your entire being opposes the task at hand?

I don't have any tips for you. I am stuck in the exact same situation. I'm actually thankful that you shared your story and several of the comments posted here. It made me feel less lonely with my situation.

The quitting part, moving on to a new job is not an option for me as I am convinced that it is the same exact situation in most businesses around my area.

I started working on some personal projects which helps a lot, but does not solve my problem.

I find myself pushing to the last minute before the task at hand is due. The extra rush of adrenaline from the looming deadline gives me the kick I need to overcome the meaningless work I am about to do...

Good luck.

toxiczone | 12 years ago | on: Show HN: My new project - ask.io

There is too little in it for anyone to have any confidence in it. Meaning, no privacy policy, terms n conditions, ways to contact you (as a street address or real entity, other than an anonymous looking gmail address). Any of your forms do not validate for a real email address, which makes me nervous about the security of the data you're collecting... (read SQL injection and not knowing your programming skills).

No offense please, but these are all little things that would make me nervous before submitting some data.

And then there is a favor asked about sending cards to a woman that no one knows, and someone should wonder if it's an ex-boyfriend playing a prank or the real deal. It doesn't show any affiliation between ask.io itself (you) and the woman in question.... Checking out humbly doesn't help either, it is as empty of info as ask.io

Good luck to you and your wife, best recovery!

What a sweet story leg less dude gets to compete w legged dudes, but his legs were made for robocop....

Im not going to dispute his athleticism, but in a place like the Olympics where it always comes down to hundredth of a second to beat some decade old record... Where all these ppl trained since they were born... It just doesn't seem right... If at least the prosthetics were engineered to behave like human legs it wouldn't be as bad, but they are obviously designed for a specific goal. I don't think he uses the same legs to go grocery shopping or catch a movie...

Ps: this is an undeducated comment, I'm not planning to read dozens of articles to study the scientific aspects of Joe's toes...

toxiczone | 14 years ago | on: Ask HN: How easily can I obtain a US Visa? Anyone got experience?

L1 would be the best bet. Three conditions, it has to be a UK co owning a branch in the States, not a US co with a UK office. You have to work there for at least a year (keep your pay stubs, they are required proof). They have to demonstrate they could not find the talent locally, newspaper ad and a couple interviews...

For investments, I don't know if 1M USD is required, but, I saw in the news some gov or cities considering to use foreign investors to finance local projects and they'll be able to obtain green cards (Tampa Bay Rays new stadium for example) but I don't think they are doing it yet, or maybe it was just more politicians blabbering in the medias...

[update] decide wisely, a visa tied to a company means you can't work anywhere else... You quit, your arse is back on a plane... Which means it is often used to secure cheaper talents that are stuck w the company, of course there are ways (h1B transfer to another company) but they are difficult to achieve...

Good luck!
